That's not true. I'm rather sure that Pal Park allows you to catch the Pokemon that you had from your GBA Pokemon cartridges, including Legendaries.

But the game is made of win. ^_^

Yeah, I was thinking if I ever got Platinum, I'd arrange a meeting or two with MasterKey so I can use him as a middleman for moving my Pokemon from Diamond to Platinum.

Or, if you get a DSi and plan on keeping your DS (Lite), you could just make the trades yourself.

I just noticed this...

The first Generation had 5 legendaries

The Second Generation had 6 Legendaries

The Third Generation had 10 Legendaries

and the fourth generation has...

15 Legendaries.

This is getting out of hand...
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum

Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: The Glamour Nazi on March 29, 2009, 12:00:17 PM
Well the Exotics (the canonical name) are more of a trophy than a competetion pokemon, You can't use them in standard competitions and the only thing they're good for is showing off.

That's why they're really there.

And HnS you wanna know awesome tyranitar is awesome.
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: darkphantomime on March 29, 2009, 12:02:56 PM
Yeah but it just seems like they put more effort into designing the legendaries than they did in designing all the other pokemon in the current generation.

I'd hate to see how many legendaries the fifth generation will have...
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: Fishalicious on March 29, 2009, 12:05:04 PM
what will they be the legends of?

they have wind, water, ice, thunder, fire, reincarnation, life and death, time and space, the ocean, the land, the sky, the grass, darkness, night, day, every human emotion AND god itself.

Post by: The Glamour Nazi on March 29, 2009, 12:07:04 PM
Yeah, this Generaltion was pretty pitiful with the forms and...

Wait you counted Rotom as An Exotic, Rotom is not an Exotic pokemon. Sure you only catch one but it isn't classified as an Exotic, and I'm not talking about in Uber/standard style, it just isn't classified as Celebi and stuff.

But yeah I hope they don't put in more Exotics.

What?  If you're talking to Fisk, Zapdos and Raikou are both Electric types.
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: The Glamour Nazi on March 29, 2009, 12:13:38 PM
No It's just that Rotom was even released as a non Legendary pokemon.
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: Fishalicious on March 29, 2009, 12:15:11 PM
technically speaking, only a few of them are legendaries. heatran just can't breed- it has a gender, which means that there is more than one, and rotom, as chuck said, is just a singly available pokemon.

Latios, Latias, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune are also not one-of's... in the pokedex, it says that the beasts emerge when lightning falls to earth, a volcano erupts, and something else for ribbon-butt.

and yeah, the 4th gen. sucked. except for a select few. Hippopotas makes me want to punt babies.

AND THEY DO NEED TO MAKE DRUG POKEMON.

bronzbong's special ability would be truant. and it would know the special move "munchies" which would give it the leftovers food effect for 5 turns.

But how? I haven't used the wireless (having nobody to use it with), and I'm too lazy to figure it out.

Oh, and my pokemon are only like, levels 36 and 37. I just beat the... 5th gym? With wake.

I assume you have regular wireless Internet? If so, what you do is that at the menu where you're prompted to start a new game or continue your current one, follow the breadcrumbs: Nintendo WFC Settings >> Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings >> Connection 1/2/3 >> Search for an Access Point. The rest I can't really help with because I'm stuck with a USB Connector, another option on the list.

And don't worry too much; I beat the eighth gym today, but we could make Poffins or something. Chatting is fun, too, I guess, right? I'd like to see how it works. ^^

No, I have the internet set up on Platinum, but how do I connect with you?

Friend codes? But then It'll only be 2 people. So how do we get to each other in that Wi-fi plaza, is what I meant.

Oh, and can my little brother come too?
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: The Glamour Nazi on March 30, 2009, 04:12:31 PM
Oh yeah, over the internet it's only two people.

We're going to have to do some quick checks of multiple things...
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: MagmarFire on March 30, 2009, 04:16:02 PM
It seems to me that we just need to connect to Nintendo WFC at the center desk in the basement of any Pokemon Center. It hints that multiple people can be connected at the same time, hence the Double/Multi Battle options.

But yes, we do need Friend Codes.

Okay...

Torterra-Groll:100
Lapras-Lara:100
Luxray-Luxa:100
Pidgeot-Pidge:100
Tyrannitar-Tira:70
Infernape-Bakatarou:82

I have more level 100's but I like these guys the best.

BTW guys the elite four gets much harder the more you fight them, Especially Cynthia, on this game, with that team I barely made it through my third time.

This game is finally starting to use the strategies it beats into your mind the entire game.

Wow, you guys have been busy, Well I'n back and willing to do stuff on this, I'm training my secondary team so any IV battles will help too.

AND BIG NEEEEEEWWWWS FOR US PLATINUM PLAYERS!

Secret Key coming to North America
Canada got news of the Key first, but now it has been revealed that the entire of North America can get hold of this event item as well, as it has now been released via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as well as at Toys 'R' Us stores across the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. The Wi-Fi distribution is being held from April 20th until May 12th, and the Toys 'R' Us stores are holding events from April 19th to April 26th. This is a Platinum-only event, so players of Diamond/Pearl will not be able to acquire the Secret Key unless they have a copy of Pokemon Platinum.

Unlike other events, the Wonder Card that is received from this event can be sent over to other players, allowing them to get the Secret Key even if they are unable to attend an event or get the Secret Key via Wi-Fi.

More information regarding Rotom and the Secret Key can be found on Pokemon's official Platinum website at: http://www.pokemonplatinum.com/#/pokemon/rotom/

Big thanks to Pokecharms for letting me (not really) steal this.

Train 'em 1 by 1. Go fight the elite 4 with it first in your party, and holding an exp share. Then, swap it out and kill their pokemon. When they send out their second, you put the lv 1 back out and repeat.

See what I'm saying?

Er, I thought only certain berries can reduce the amount of accumulated EVs.

Besides, if you want EV gain for very low-level Pokemon, use stat-enhancing supplements like Protein.

This'll let you know all about the stuff you'll be unlocking in the Rotom event, and if you want a shiney pikachu-looking pichu and lvl 100 arceus with Palkia,Dialga, and Giratina's ultimate moves, and it's own- Judgement, Reserve your ticket to the new movie as soon as it is announced.

I'm gonna do it just for the pokemon, not really see the movie, you gotta show up for Arceus though.

Yeah i did.

Water VS. Fire Pokemon = Water = Win

It being "super effective" doesn't say anything, it's like...if a 34 lvl Pokemon did that on a 65 lvl pokemon, it'd still probably say "super effective!" but it would hardly damage the 65 lvl pOKEMON.

Yeah, I got Diamond, and I'm to the point where I just got to SunnyShore. I'm not ready to battle any of you yet, because I still have to trade someone to get my Gengar, and I still have to raise them all a little bit more. Some of their movesets are poor quality because of the HM's, so when I get some cunning movesets, I'll let'cha know. I don't even know if I have WiFi. I tried going to that think in Veilburg(I believe) where there's that giant spinning globe, but I couldn't find a connection... which is retarded, because my friend brings his I-Pod touch over, and he finds connections up the butt.

Correct.
I taught it to my Medicham.
His ability is "Pure Power", which boosts physical attacks.
Furthermore, he's equipped with a "Fist Plate" that increases the power of fighting type attacks. He's already got a beastly attack stat to begin with, which makes rock smash quite a move to be reckoned with- of course, his "High Jump Kick" becomes more of a risk when used, but it can also rattle off some serious damage.

Alright, lets see if I can remember...

Go to jubilife
Go in the TV station
Go to the 3rd floor
Talk to the couple on the bottom of the room
For his first answer type... Everyone happy?
Then for the second try... wi-fi... connection?
If I remembered those correctly, when you restart the game, there will be a Mystery Gift button under your file.

Tomorrow, click the button
Hit via nintendo WFC
Get a wonder card
Go to any Pokemart
Talk to the delivery man (standing next to the counter).
You now have the secret key.

Do you know wht to do with the key once you get it?

Go to the Galactic hq in... Eterna.
Go to the NWmost corner on... a room with a TV, not sure which. face north
Either press A, or use it from the key items pocket... not sure
There you go.

Yeah, Not the greatest thing out there but it does expand on Charons story a little.

Also I getting angry about not being able to mix records through Wi-Fi.

What's up with that?

rabies you wanted to know where you get certain pokemon so for everyones sake I'll post the link to the pokeradar page on Serebii.

http://www.serebii.net/platinum/pokeradar.shtml

Also, Rowan gives it to you, Then when you go outside dawn talks to you automatically and then you go to route 203 i think and she teaches you to use it.

For all you shiny hunters out there...

The Pokeradar is for you.

I have three shinies.

A pidgey (not used)

a smeargle

And a Grimer.

Also TP Zelda wanted to know where to get Tyrouge for the Hitmons.

Route 211 west side with pokeradar.

You may all thank me later.

They're very rare even if you use the radar. if you use the search on there it tells you if they're really rare. Such as lapras. (Can only be cause in one place but less limited than Feebas.)

Just to check here, what level are most of your guys' pokemon?
Just I know what to train up to before I start messing with you guys.

I'm going to be fair and not trade pokemon from my Ruby version. I was a pokemon FANATIC when I got that game, so I wound raising a few to level 100. ;)
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum

Just to be fair when you battle me you can imporst them

I have almost 20 lvl 100 pokemon.

but most battles will be under tourney rules so it'll be lvl 50 fixed and no legends.

Well They're called ubers.

The list is most of the good legends. (Anything but Jirachi, Celebi, and Rotom,) And Wobuffet.

Because Wobuffet is an evil beast.

No no no, I meant like in battles there is the option of going Level 50 and level 100 set, a lot of people don't know how to use a level 100 the correct way so they just stick with level 50 set.

It'll bump all your pokemon down to the stats they had at level 50 and They keep there moves.

Also this here should Explain Tiers in Pokemon.

Like I said, Wobuffet=TEH BEASTZ!

Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum

Garchomp has some easily Exploited weaknesses. That's why it's not Uber.

The game makes all the pokemon lv50. They could be iv1, or lv100. They just get changed to 50 for the duration of the battle.

Post by: Hi no Seijin on April 24, 2009, 06:16:39 PM
I believe the button combination for a soft reset is Start+Select+A+B; a hard reset, on the other hand, would be turning the system off and then turning it back on right away.

As for chaining with the Pokeradar, it's using the Pokerader to initiate a battle with a Wild Pokemon, and then using the Pokeradar again to fight the same Pokemon.  When chaining, you need to pay attention to how the grass shakes.  When you use the Pokeradar again, try to step onto the grass that shook like the one before it.  Max Repels are very handy to have with you when you chain, as a random battle will ruin the chain.  When chaining, you must KO the Pokemon; you can't run away or catch it.

Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: The Glamour Nazi on April 25, 2009, 05:09:35 AM
Lol, Yeah But like I said, Really stressful.

It's sort of crazy at times when you get a chain of almost 40 and then it gets broken without you seeing a shiny you get all *In Gannon voice* NOOO! And throw your DS out the window.

It helps to listen to music and other things that won't distract you considering you have to be looking at the screen the entire time after a battle.

Also Black flute helps keep pokemon away even though It's semi-unreliable.

I've always raised a Gengar when it was possible as well.
I also always choose the Water starter first. I loved Squirtle and Totadile. Mudkip was alright, and Piplup was just terrible. I wish I'd've chosen Turtwig. My favorites of startes for the generations were:
Squirtle>Bulbasaur=Charmander (this gen was magical)
Totadile>Cyndaquill=Chikorita (loved second gen)
Torchic>Mudkip>Treeko (this gen was awesome, but not comparable to 1st and 2nd)
I didn't like any of the 4th gen starters that much. I eventually just threw Prinplup out of the team completely. I also love Ninetales, and raise it whenever possible. I'm a diehard first generation fan, and always will be. If I had to assemble a team to travel with through an entire game, it'd be composed completely of the first to ever explode onto the scene.

I mean, it's impossible to get anything. Like, I finally got a Paras. I've had God knows how many Azumarills get away, and now this Carvanha won't stay in the damn ball.

I need these pokemon

Edit: OHMYGOD I CAUGHT THE CARVANHA HAPPY FACE

I shall name him Jimmy Stewart. Or some shorter version of that name.

My favourite starters are like this:

Bulbasaur > Charmander > Squirtle
Totodile > Cyndaquil > Chikorita (this is really hard to decide with)
Treecko > Torchic > Mudkip
LOL 4TH GEN POKEMON. I like Empoleon because I love Steel c:

anddd I just said screw the great marsh. I miss the safari zone. rrrrr Nidorino and Kangaskhan come back ;;
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: DW on April 26, 2009, 06:09:31 PM
You can still get them...though I think for Kangaskhan you need Ruby or Sapphire in the GBA slot.

And yeah, I wanna never come back either but there are some pokemon I have to get here.

Hey Fisk we should battle or trade or something.

I'm still tromping around the Marsh (I wasted five balls and countless mud chunks and bait on Marill and still didn't get him ;_;)

But yeah I can do it later.

EDIT: Is it possible to partner up for the battle tower over Wi-Fi? Without fighting each other?

Also, I have all the starters and I am willing to breed them for any of you out there who are willing to let me borrow a ditto (I forgot my starters are almost all male and gave Rabies my Ditto  ???)

Also the greatest person to face the Elite 4 with?

A Sceptile that knows Leafstorm/Blade and X scissor Takes down two of the four.

And is well worth the trouble of Importing, I also had a shiny army once but I gave up on it, mainly cause I got Platinum and didn't want to do it again and I wanted To go after my passion... Pokemon Breeding.

How well would I fare against the Elite 4 with my team:

Rapidash Lv42
Strength, Stomp, Ember, Fire Blast
I raised his Fire Blast to 8/8PP

Gastrodon Lv40
Surf, Rain Dance, Waterfall, Body Slam
I plan to teach him a good ground move. Any suggestions?

Medicham Lv43
Rock Smash, Hi Jump Kick, Psychic, Drain Punch
Held Item: Fist Plate

Luxray Lv44
Thunder Fang, Spark, Charge, Crunch

Drifblim
Fly, Stockpile, Swallow, Cut
I definitely plan to train him a bunch, don't worry.

Gengar Lv42
Shadowball, Toxic, Shadowclaw, Confuse Ray
I plan to get rid of Shadowclaw for Destiny Bond.

I've also got a pretty nice Kricketune, and Dialga.

The last woman in the elite four sucked. She killed my Vodka (luxray) and I got a little sad, since Vodka is my powerhouse. I used a revive and just killed the rest of her team with Dialga's Roar of Time and Charge Beam. ... Then I sent out my Skuntank against her last pokemon, Roserade. I used Flamethrower, she used full restore. I used very weak poison moves against her, getting her health down really low.

Then I just waited for her to use her moves against me. They didn't effect me, since they were poison, and the ones that did, I just used full restores against.

She killed herself by using Struggle. Victory, she is sweet.

Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: Deku on April 28, 2009, 09:15:03 PM
Yep.
I can change the starter pokemon, the sprites, everything down to the attacks they can learn, their stats, and the items they hold. I use a few programs that can be found here (http://hackpokemon.weebly.com/).

At first its a little bit complicated, but you get used to it fast. The hardest thing to get down is the warping. Like say when you walk into a house, it transports you to the "inside the house" map. I can't get the text editor to work(Advance Text) or the Mart editor to work(Advance Mart). It only works on GBA games, and I highly reccomend starting easy with Fire red.

Its hard to find good tutorials on how to use the stuff, so if you have questions feel free to PM me. I made this really cool game once where you start off as a rocket. You're in your room in one of the six barracks in your little base of operations. The starters you choose from are Ekans, Koffing, and Grimer. Nice huh? If I could get the text editor to work I could make full fledged games! :)

That makes much more sense.

Considering it goes over the things like you would normally start with.

And speaking of starters I've revamped my team (Again shush up mags and Rabies) So I could customize my nicknames. My new pokemon in place of Sceptile is Meganium, (Once it evolves.)

I also nicked all my pokemon their japanese names.

Okay so here they are

SPECIES- Name
AMPHAROS- Denryu
XATU- Natio
DUGTRIO- Dugtrio
LAPRAS (No longer my old Lapras I b0rked her EVs)- Laplace
MEGANIUM- Meganium
CHARIZARD- Lizardon

Well there is my new team and nicks.

I'm gonna start EVing them now so have fun.

Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum
Post by: MagmarFire on May 07, 2009, 03:57:47 AM
TP Zelda, to do it, you need to go to the WiFi Connection Setup option in the main menu (or whatever the heck it's called). Then she just needs to choose the type of connection that best fits her connection type--a USB Connector or regular wireless.

It's pretty simple from there, for it's a given linear process.

Quote from: ZeldaVeteran on April 29, 2009, 09:54:03 AM

That actually looks pretty good. It includes Dark types, and it also includes the standard Fire-Grass-Water starter combo.

I'd say have Nuzleaf start with Seedot, though, but that's just my two cents. ;)

but that'd be wrong, changing the story is alright, and what pokemon you get/encounter, but changing the pokemon themselves is breaking the game.

And shika, let's take my Aggron for example, he usually gets +2 to his def each level, but if i fight pokemon with high def (say graveler) when he levels up next he could get +3 or +6 even to his def at his level.
Title: Re: Pokemon Platinum

Based on what Dr. said, an EV (short for effort value, sometimes referred to as an encounter value) is like a "stat building block" that is awarded to a Pokemon every time he or she defeats another. Also based on what Dr. said, Graveler is known for Defense EVs, so every time his Aggron defeats a Graveler, Defense EVs are added to his Aggron's "pool." Supposedly, every four EVs increases the stat by one.

Each Pokemon is allowed only 510 EVs total, and I believe only 255 max are allowed for each stat (please correct me if I'm wrong, Roy). You also know the supplements you buy your Pokemon? The Iron, Carbos, etc.? Those increase the stats by adding ten EVs each.

I've gotten bored of it for two reasons:

1. Because I've been playing TF2.
2: Because I CAN'T BEAT FREAKN' CYNTHIA AND NOW I HAVE TO START OVER WITH THE ELITE 4 :(

I'd still battle people though...

But yeah.

I miss battling people. T.T

Rabies, in Platinum, Snorunt can be found by walking around Acuity Lakefront, Lake Acuity, and Route 217 at night with a 20% chance of encountering it.  There's a 10% chance that you'll encounter Snorunt on Route 216 at night.

For Diamond and Pearl, use the PokeRadar at any time of day when you're on Route 216, Route 217, or Acuity Lakefront.

I loved the Red battle. Definately the hardest In game battle I'ver ever fought. Between switching to my damage sponges and healing I was pretty busy.

I need to work on my Dex some more, only have 130 something pokemon, and I need to work on my Battle Tower strategies.

Also I hard a really hard time on Pennant Capture for the Pokeathelon.

Anyway I also went and bred all the pokemon on my team, so right now I'm running around with a low level team, of a Snorlax, a Pigey, a Totodile, a Cyndaquil, a Mareep, and my high level Meganium.

Anyway if you want to battle or something tell me. Also I'm not one of the "Competitive" battlers that only use dragon/steel/blissey pokemon, but I do know a lot of the game mechanics. I do tend to play with a "game" style team, with HMs on the movesets and whatnot. I'm more of an RPer when it comes to Pokemon, coming up with a story for my character more than just what you get in the game.

Hate to double post in GD, but I feel I ought to say that the Vth Gen Pokemon games are coming along nicely.  Psypoke (http://www.psypokes.com) got their hands on a few screenshots for Pokemon Black and White; the perspective looks rather epic in the fourth screenshot.  Can't wait to see some official art though, especially of the trainers.  The new games are coming out Fall 2010 in Japan, so it looks like we can expect it sometime 2011 in the States.

And I'm calling it now; the third game is going to be called Pokemon Gray.

SoulSilver and HeartGold had great music. If you get the item "GB Sounds", it plays the music like it was in the gen 2 games. It's amazing! Granted, Pokemon music was never the best, but it was never bad. It's the kind of game music that gets stuck in your head.

Like Zelda music.

I am NOT going to buy a DS.
NOT HAPPENING.
Someone needs to create a good DS emulator pretty darn fast.
This is yet ANOTHER game for the DS that I won't be able to play. You know what's really sad? The DS has been all like:
crap game
crap game
crap game
crap game
crap game
crap game
crap game
awesome looking game I.E. PKMN HG/SS, Phantom Hourglass, Fire Emblem, etc.
crap game
crap game
crap game
crap game
crap game
Game that makes me ashamed to be a nintendo fan
crap game

I just can't find the DS worth buying, but I want to play some of those games so bad >.<

Any Nintendo software does. But the bad points seem to outweigh the good ones as far as the DS goes. Apparently Nintendo is putting out new DS models like crazy, and it's pissing off consumers because the model they just bought is obsolete. To make things funnier, Nintendo announced that they have a NEW newer than new DS that'll be debuting at this years E3. Just read the article in the new issue of Game Informer, and apparently, it'll be 3D without having to use special glasses. The GBA was the most amazing handheld system ever, and if you ask me, it still is.

So, hey, hit a roadblock in my attempt to fill out the Pokedex.  Except for Glameow and Purugly, I have every Pokemon I can get from Diamond, the GTS, and events I didn't miss.  So I thought it was about time I started raising some teams for competitive battling.  Any guidelines I should keep in mind?  You know, Pokemon I shouldn't use, max level, etc.  It would seem rather unfair if I came to a battle with a team of six level 100 Mewtwos.

YOu want to do competitive stuff there are tiers that do exist in pokemon. All legendaries (Except Jirachi, celebi, and I think latios/latias) and Wobuffett are called ubers and are usually banned.

There usually isn't a level cap or it's set before the battle and your pokemons levels will be reduced to it, so you don't have to worry about that.

For pokemon to use, there are 3 must haves if you wanna annoy the crap out of your opponent. Blissey with maxed out HP and SP-A EVs, Skarmory with SP-D and DEF maxed out, and finally Togekiss with body slam, air slash (Or whatever that move that flinches is) and roost. This Togekiss moveset is called a Para-Flincher as it paralyzes and allows you to flinch unyieldingly while healing yourself. Some more good pokemon to have are Tyranitar with some good STABs, Dragonite with some good STABs, and that jet dragon thing that I forgot. With some good STABs.

FYI STAB is same type attack Bonus.

There, with those tips you should dominate the arena, but people will hate you forever.

Speaking of which I may start going to some tournaments at the gamestop by the walmart down by sandbridge area so I may see you if you ever go there.
Title: Re: Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver.
Post by: Hi no Seijin on May 25, 2010, 08:36:29 AM
Don't worry, I know what a STAB is.  And I sincerely doubt I'm going to bother with EV training; it's a tedious enough chore raising the Pokemon's level, I don't want to worry about which Pokemon I need to KO.  Then again, there are vitamins I could use, right?

I think you're thinking of Garchomp.

Oh, hey, it's not really my type, but what's a good Water Pokemon?

You guys are completely forgetting about Scizor. When I played competitively, he was a BAMF. Almost every team I came across in metagame was either packing a Scizor, or a Pokemon to counter Scizor.

It has also been to my experience that a fully leveled Dragonite, Gengar, or Umbreon will never do you wrong. I used an Umbreon in my team as a Toxic Trapper, and he did wonders. Gengar is almost guaranteed to take out at LEAST one pokemon on the other team. His superior speed enables his destiny bond to be used to full effect. Thunderbolt, Psychic, and Confuse Ray are the other moves I'd recommend for him. Dragonite doesn't need explaining. He's just that amazing.

That being said, you should definitely consider a "Dragon Flak Cannon"(a fast ice type). For Dragonite, I'd recommend Earth Quake, Dragondance, Dragonclaw (for your STAB move), and for the later move, do whatever you want. I'd recommend a healing move like Rest, or if he can learn it (I can't remember) Recover.

With that kind of Dragonite, You can deal with any pokemon except for ONE pokemon who is resistant to your attacks. Skarmory. I think that's pretty good odds.
Title: Re: Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver.
Post by: The Glamour Nazi on May 25, 2010, 11:01:47 AM
But using a dragonite to win is something anyone can do, I prefer long torturous battle with moves like spikes, toxic spikes, stealth rock, and of course, a para flincher team.

I forgot to mention Scizor, but it's 5x weakness to fire, a commonly used type is enough to set it down a bit.

A good water type is Lapras, Marshtomp if you think you're against more electric than grass, but blizzard or ice beam fixes that, or lastly Starmie because it's just awesome looking with pretty good stats.

Overall marshtomp is the best if you can get an ice beam out fast enough.

Also note 1HKO are also banned from competitive play usually, but it never hurts to ask.

One weakness vs Ten resistances. I'd say that's good. First of all, they have to start with a fire type. Here's what happens if they don't(assuming your Scizor is using technician):

Turn 1:
Scizor- Swords dance
Lapras- Switch to fire type

Turn 2:
Scizor (if slower than opponent)- Bullet Punch (130 B.A.P. + Technician)
Scizor (if faster than opponent)- Brick Break (130 B.A.P. + Swords Dance)
Fire Type- Most likely dead.

If you think you're up against a severe disadvantage somehow, U-Turn can do some decent damage coming from a Scizor, especially if it has been sword danced once. He can learn Roost as well. A good Scizor can sweep entire teams like Kingler used to do in his day.

There are still better things to use. Skarmory for one. But Togekiss too cause it is capable of a roosting, paraflincher and it's fast enough to pull it off.

I'm actually not much for creating teams like this but the pokemon I do use have all the bases covered and are pretty well EV trained.

Also try those fighting move on any flying fire types and it won't work. GARizard all the way.

If I recall correctly, vitamins only work until the point where a Pokemon's EV count of a particular stat reaches 100. EVs go up to 255.

However, the Battle Frontier (in Platinum, at least) sells bands that ensures a gain of +4 EVs for a particular stat every time a Pokemon is defeated, the side effect being that it reduces Speed for however long it's being held.

2 * 2 = 4. :P (6 if you include the STAB.)

That...doesn't make sense. O.o

Bug is weak against Fire (x2), and Steel is also weak against it (x2). That's a quad weakness, not a quint weakness, since 2 * 2 = 4 != 5. As far as I know, Scizor doesn't have a unique handicap that buffs that by 25%, unless I'm wrong.

If I recall correctly, there should be an ability out there that only makes a Pokemon weaker to a particular type. I'm not sure what that is exactly or if Scizor has it, though.

True, but Steelix can learn Rock Polish, which raises a Pokemon's speed by two stages.  With her good defense (the one I caught for battling is a she), she'll probably be able to last long enough to take her turns.

My apologies for the double post, but Psypoke (http://www.psypokes.com/) recently reported new tidbits of info for Pokemon Black and White.  Like Reshiram and Zekrom's type; Reshiram is Dragon/Fire while Zekrom is Dragon/Electric.  The new professor, Professor Araragi, is a woman for the first time in Pokemon's history.  They go on to report seven new Pokemon: Chiramii, a Normal-type Chinchilla Pokemon with the abilities Cute Charm and Technician; Mamepato, a Normal/Flying-type Pokemon based on a pigeon, with the abilities Super Luck and a new one that appears to prevent some stat reductions; a Steel-type whose name romanizes to Gear, with the abilities Plus and Minus; Mun'na, a Psychic-type that looks somewhat pig-like, with the abilities Forewarn and Synchronize, and a new move "Telekinesis" that causes Pokemon on the field to float; Hihidaruma, a Fire-type ape Pokemon with a new ability that is unknown as to what it does right now; Shimama, an Electric-type horse Pokemon with the abilities Lightningrod and Motor Drive; and Meguroko, a Ground/Dark-type crocodile with the abilities Intimidate and a new ability that boosts Attack after the opposing Pokemon is KO'd.  Two new Wi-Fi abilities were also reported, but only one is known at the moment, and that is a Random Match feature.

You mean like Grumpig? I hope not.

QuoteHihidaruma, a Fire-type ape Pokemon with a new ability that is unknown as to what it does right now;

A Fire-type ape... Now where have we seen this before...?

QuoteShimama, an Electric-type horse Pokemon with the abilities Lightningrod and Motor Drive;

EPIC WIN.

Quoteand Meguroko, a Ground/Dark-type crocodile with the abilities Intimidate and a new ability that boosts Attack after the opposing Pokemon is KO'd.

Now that is what I'm talking about.

QuoteTwo new Wi-Fi abilities were also reported, but only one is known at the moment, and that is a Random Match feature.

Wi-Fi abilities? That's pretty new. Sweetness.

All right, that's my two cents.

On Mun'na, some of the folks over at Psypoke are speculating that it could be a pre-evolution form of Drowzee and Hypno.  Mun'na is known as the Dream Eater Pokemon, and the nose does look similar to Drowzee's nose.  However, the color scheme is off; Mun'na is pink with flowers...painted? tatooed?...on its body.  Psypokes and Serebii have pictures of it.

Okay, at least he looks awesome. Out of all the pokemon I've seen from this generation, this one has to be my favorite. It doesn't look all ugly, no spikes and stripes, it looks like it could have been from generation one or two.

Oh jeez, where have I seen this before. This is gonna bug me all day. OH it's the annoying BIRD type that we're gonna see on the very first route of the game. I get tired of bird types, sue me. Also, where the hell did they come up with that name? Remember the good ol' days with "pidgey", or "Lickitung"?

All I can say about this Pokemon is that they obviously just looked at a Daruma doll (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hwVfyLZEJfU/R49EpDOEW2I/AAAAAAAAAUk/baG3H2L1Zug/s400/daruma.jpg) and added limbs. They didn't even try to cover it up, I mean Daruma is in his name for God's sakes. They were just like "o its red lets maek it a fyr tipe."

This thing looks... decent. Reminds me somewhat of Jirafarig, which holds fond memories. Looks like it could have come out of Generation two, so it's sort of on good standing with me. He looks a little traumatized by something though, don't you think? I wonder if they'll mention it in its pokedex description like they did with Xatu.

You got some Red X's of DOOM in there, ZV.

And is that you speaking in the quote boxes, or someone else?  Either way, at the comment about the names under Mamepato, I would like to point out that these are only the Japanese names; the English names could be different.

Yeah, I can see the pics now.

I just now thought that Mamepato looks so much like an actual pigeon that I can imagine little kids throwing toy Pokeballs at pigeons after Pokemon Black and White come out in America.  Oh, those silly little kids; someone should teach them the difference between real life and fiction.

Update on acquiring Zorua and Zoroark:  You'll need either a Celebi or one of the shiny Legendary Beasts; all of them have to be event-based.  Currently, only Japan has events planned for them, but there should be an event for them in the Americas as Black and White draw closer to release over here.

Double Post of Update-y Goodness.

From July 31 to August 27, players of Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be given access to an event to get the Enigma Stone, which is required to catch either Latios or Latias, depending on which game you have.

This is so nice of Nintendo, putting the event around my birthday.  I usually save birthdays for books, but I think it's time to break away from tradition this year.

I did some more digging around at the official site.  You must have the National Dex, and you need fewer than two Wonder Cards in your possession (check under the Mystery Gift option; it's somewhere there).  If I'm understanding this correctly, you only need a wireless connection to get the Enigma Stone; if you have that at home, then there's no need to go out to get it.  However, I'm not 100% sure on this, so someone's going to have to check that Saturday.

Psypoke's take on good movesets for Dragonite, depending on its nature, stats, and EV spread. (http://www.psypokes.com/dex/psydex/149/movesets)  Personally, though, I'd go with Dragon Dance, Earthquake, Dragon Claw, and Fly.

Reporting on what Psypoke (http://www.psypokes.com) has already reported....

Black and White will have seasons, and the seasons will affect the terrain and what Pokemon can be found in the wild.  Also, Shikijika, a Normal/Grass-type deer-like Pokemon, will change its color scheme depending on the season.  The seasons are in-game and last for one real-world month.

Bikutini, the Psychic/Fire-type, has a new Fire-type move called "Complete Burn" or "Incinerate" that burns the held berry of a Pokemon, making it unusable.  Bikutini is only available through an event (details for outside of Japan are yet to come, of course), but in the case of accidental KO it will come back until you catch it.  It comes knowing Quick Attack, Endure, Confusion, and the new attack described above.

In addition to 3-on-3 trainer battles, there will be Wild Double Battles.

Pokemon from Generation IV games will be transferable after the Elite Four and undoubtedly the National Dex via the PokeShifter, which will work like the PalPark.

Team Plasma's uniforms seem to be based on medieval knights.  One could wonder if Team Plasma is meant to represent a desire to return to an older time and get rid of all of the new technology Isshu has, but it is easy to be distracted from this line of thought by how utterly stupid they look.  Is it me, or is it getting harder to take these evil organizations seriously as their outfits have gotten more ridiculous as the series marches on?

TMs are no longer one-use items; they can be used on multiple Pokemon.  I'm not quite sure how to feel on this.  On the one hand, it's nice to know that Giga Drain and Dream Eater can be taught to several Pokemon; on the other hand, I'm worried if this will wreck the balance.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

There is a Dream World, which is the only place you can grow berries.  Pokemon found there can also have unique properties, such as new abilities.  For example, Vaporeon, who normally has the Water Absorb ability, can gain the Hydration ability.

To see what else was reported on, click on the link at the beginning of this post.

Ah, I see some parallels between this and Animal Crossing. I like it. Not to mention the Hi-Link, which only seems to add to the Animal Crossing parallels.

The way I see it, it saves time breeding them and transferring them over to a new save file. I certainly think it's better that I actually use these more often instead of leaving them in my bag to rot until I (usually never) need them.

Wheee, I caught a shiny Wooper just south of Violet City.  It sucks that the Pokedex still won't show the shiny form of a Pokemon if you've seen it, and the small icon of it won't be shiny if you view the Pokemon menu.  Which is really weird, because the small icon for Wooper that follows me around is shiny, so I know that they have the sprites for it.

I love sending Aedre out into battle; she looks back at me and every time I see the face I like to think that it's like she's saying, "You caught a shiny!"

I could have been luckier against Whitney and Morty (heh, Morty's the Ghost-type gym leader).  Against Whitney, I was down to my starter, Aidan, and Miltank made him fall in love with her, so I was missing most of the time, and she kept on using Milk Drink to restore her HP.  Took me far too long to KO her using Ember since physical attackers were barely doing anything, but at least she was burned.

And then with Morty, his Ghost Pokemon wiped the floor with mine.  I was down to Stantler and Morty was down to his final Haunter, and I had run out of PP for Astonish; Stantler's other three moves were Sand Attack, Hypnosis, and Stomp, the first two being non-damaging moves and Stomp being Normal and therefore useless against any Ghost Pokemon.  So the only thing I could do was keep Stantler's HP up with Potions until Morty's Haunter eventually KO'd itself with Curse.

But hey, only four more badges until I can take on the Elite Four and get the National Pokedex.  At the rate I'm going, I should be able to get my Enigma Stone before the event is over.

I didn't find Whitney as hard as other people made her out to be. My Onix was my Stonewall Jackson of the party; his absurdly high DEF and type advantage made her Normal-type, physical moves relatively painless, so I didn't have too much trouble, if I remember correctly.

Chuck, on the other hand, was different. Oh, gosh, was he different.
Title: Re: Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver.
Post by: Hi no Seijin on August 17, 2010, 08:51:22 PM
That's the thing, though; all of Whitney's Pokemon could infatuate my male Pokemon, which my Onix was.  His defense wouldn't have mattered since he was refusing to attack more than half the time and Miltank would use Rollout, which gains in strength when used in succession.

Chuck is Water-type, right?  If so, who should I train up more:  Bellsprout (or a better Grass-type Pokemon) or Flaaffy?

Chuck was a Fighting-type anyway, and in my rush to get to the Elite Four, I had to rely on luck, which didn't work the first time, but worked the second time.

I'm up against Jasmine now, but I need to level up Aidan some more, preferably to the point where he evolves to his final form.  Where's a good place to train a Quilava?

Ugh, can't believe I missed the HM for Rock Smash.  Thank goodness I have Fly now.  Now I just need to head up to Lake Rage and catch a Pidgeotto.

Use a Potion and switch out when Rollout becomes too troublesome, then. It'll only have twenty uses, so you can whittle that down gradually; plus, it'll get rid of his infatuation, to boot. When Rollout's all gone, that's no longer a hindrance, and you can continue using Onix as a fortress.

Black and White news:  Psypoke (http://www.psypokes.com) reported on a Corocoro leak that reports Combination Attacks for triple battles.  When certain attacks are executed in the correct order, additional effects will be added to the battle.  For example:  Fire and Water makes a lucky rainbow that boosts additional effects from your Pokemon's attacks, while Water and Grass will trap the opponents in a wetland and reduce their speed.  Sounds like a barrel of awesomeness to me.

I meant any game, actually.  I'm guessing Raichu doesn't get the boost then; that kind of sucks.  So I guess the question now is which is stronger:  Raichu or a Pikachu holding a Light Ball.

Yayz, I gots me my Groudon today.  I expected to have used up all of my Heavy Balls and several Ultra Balls, but it only took four Heavy Balls.  It used Rest and didn't wake up by the time I got it back down to 1 HP.  Now if only I can get a Kyogre from HeartGold so I can get the Jade Orb for Rayquaza.

There are eighteen new typings:  Grass/Steel (sounds interesting), Normal/Grass, Bug/Electric, Bug/Fire, Dark/Dragon (awesomeness), Fire/Psychic (we already know this is Victiny's typing), Ground/Dark, Dark/Fighting, Ghost/Water, Ghost/Fire (sounds interesting as well), Electric/Ground (can't wait to see this one in action), Ghost/Ground, Steel/Dark, Fighting/Rock, Flying (that's right, there'll finally be a pure Flying type, barring an Arceus holding a Flying Plate), Dragon/Fire (Reshiram), Dragon/Electric (Zekrom), and Dragon/Ice.

The HMs are down to six:  Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Waterfall, and Dive.  There's a new TM set as well, but the count is still over fifty TMs.

The first gym changes depending on which starter you choose; the gym's type will be the type that trumps your starter.

Oh, hey, Giga Drain is stronger now; it went from a base power of 60 to 75.

Psypoke has some videos of BW gameplay.  Dialogue is now shown in speech bubbles!

Man, the day they add actual free-roaming battles will be a glorious one.

I'm looking through Psypoke's Psydex, and the legendaries have been given second abilities, suggesting that you can encounter them in the Dream World.  I can't wait to here how that'll work, assuming it's true.

Second abilities as in having two abilities at once?

Because that would be *beep*in'.

Um, no.  A Pokemon with two abilities available to it can only have one ability active, not both.  For example, a Snorlax can have either Immunity or Thick Fat, but not both.  It's just that in Black and White, if you catch a Pokemon in the Dream World, it can have an ability that it doesn't normally have; for example, if you catch a Snorlax in the Dream World, it might have Gluttony instead of either Immunity or Thick Fat.

I know. For all I knew, they could've added that game mechanic, in light of all the awesome updates as of late.

Probably wouldn't be a good idea to do that, anyway.  Suppose a Pokemon having two abilities gave it an unfair advantage over a Pokemon with only one ability?

Also, there's a tentative release date for Black and White on April 2, 2011.  Keep an eye on it just in case it changes.

It's most certainly better than a Pokemon's stats being on super steroids in comparison to others, which has been the case since Generation I. Besides, Pokemon is all about advantages and disadvantages. I really doubt a dual ability advantage would trump a type advantage, unless the programmers are feeling sadistic this time around.

Well, no.  I'm assuming GameStop would have a better guess at when games are coming out since they're, you know, in the business of selling games.  And it's not like they're guaranteeing it; when I asked the guy about the release date, he told me that unless the release date they have is within three months of the stated date in their binder, then the release date is subject to change.  But I'm guessing we'll be seeing an official announcement soon.  So, again, keep an eye out for it.

*news bump*

Urgh, sorry for all the double posting, but I seem to be a topic killer in GD. >>

Anywho, there's an upcoming event for players of HeartGold and SoulSilver, the 10th Anniversary Mew, available over Wi-Fi worldwide from October 15 to October 30.  It'll be at level 5 and know Pound.  You will need fewer than 3 Wonder Cards, and you will need to make sure you have an empty slot in your party to receive Mew when you pick it up.

Some more pretty slick news! Both involving music!

The first. You know the annoying low health beep that plays whenever you're...well, low on health? (I personally think it makes battles more epic, but whatever.) Apparently, it's been made into a song. And it works.

That goes the other way around, too. Remember that in Twilight Princess, when you had the upper hand against a boss, a triumphant sting would play? It looks like that Black and White are getting a similar treatment when you get the upper hand against Gym Leaders. And boy, is the song glorious. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSJ8FMCy-Q4)

I am once again announcing an upcoming event for the Gen IV games:  the shiny Legendary Beasts!  From January 3 to the 9th, go to GameStop to pick up Raikou.  Come back January 17 to the 23 for Entei, and from January 31 to February 6, you can pick up Suicune.  When you transfer them over to Black and White, you'll be able to catch Zoroark.  Make sure you have no more than two Wonder Cards in your possession when you pick them up.

Aw, is it only GameStop where you can pick them up?

Yeah, it's only GameStop.  Well, participating GameStops.  But at least you can use any Gen IV game to get them.
