Announcements & News / Re: PLEASE READ!

Is it just Jack, ZV, and Alpha then? I expected a longer list. I should be able to fix their stuff now.

So... yeah, ZV and Alpha are done. I can't fix Jack's posts because he doesn't have a new account yet. But, anyways: make sure your post count matches up.

General Discussion / Re: Official SandCast Podcast Topic

Just finished it yesterday, however I don't really have a mic anymore. The best I can do is a Rock Band mic which we all know sucks. I should get something else soon, but it's not at the top of my list.

The SandCast will go on either way.

HEY remember that Let's Play? Well it's up on YouTube now.

I hesitated forever because I didn't want to cut the video up into 15 minute chunks since I didn't have any kind of transitions between those chunks in the video itself. It turns out, though, that YouTube now allows uploads of unlimited length as long as you link your account to a phone number, so the full hour-long episode is up on my YouTube account now.

I realize an hour might be a lot, but if you can find the time to watch this first one, I promise we'll organize future videos into 15 minute chunks natively. As it stands, we haven't been able to play Wind Waker again since this video was recorded... although most of that was because I felt guilty continuing to play the game when the first Let's Play hadn't gone up yet.

tl;dr GO WATCH NOW.

That's too bad. For the record, I hadn't realized it was actually just DLC for the DS in general, so it would be available for the DSi as well.

Four Swords/Adventures / Four Swords Anniversary Edition
September 29, 2011, 12:23:15 PM
So... have any of you downloaded it yet? If you have a 3DS, it's free right now. I haven't actually taken the steps to get it, yet, but I have a 3DS and will be downloading it soon. Anyone up for playing FSA sometime? I never actually got the chance to play it, despite having it for GBA and GCN back in the day.

General Discussion / Re: Walkthrough writers?

If we really wanted a wiki-style interface for this that isn't the Compendium (which is seriously old code anyways), I could always install one on TDC itself. That isn't a big deal, like, at all. The hardest part is everyone learning the syntax. I've done it before for HA2, and that was before I could make databases.

HOWEVER, walkthroughs are silly, guys. I don't think anyone really goes to Zelda sites for walkthroughs anymore. I'm not sure anyone ever did... although I do seem to remember one of you actually showing up at TDC initially because of a walkthrough. (Was it ZV? I can't remember exactly.)

People nowadays just go to GameFAQs. I mean, sure, it'd be nice to be one of the first sites with a Skyward Sword walkthrough, but ZV is right: someone will beat us to it. That person will probably post it to GameFAQs.

I have my video recording thing set up through my Wii, which I can use to record myself playing through the game on my first run-through. But that would be more of a Let's Play than anything else, and people probably won't sit through it for walkthrough info. (I still have that file for the Wind Waker Let's Play, I just haven't split it up yet  :'( )

I'm up for whatever you guys want to do, and I'll install a wiki if you want, but I don't think TDC should worry so much about walkthroughs.

So I've merged the TDC server with the server I was running for the marching band here at Rice. Hopefully this will mean more people on the server, which is good because I'm also running it on a better machine now. Everything that existed on the server before is still there, I just added a few people from the band to the whitelist.

TIME TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS.

Haha expensive editing software.

No, but actually the file is a wmv.  ;) Believe it or not, even though the capture thing I'm using can record just as easily to avi or mpeg, for some reason wmv was the only file type that produced a video without noticeable lag. I'm also against converting files when I can avoid it; I actually did convert this first file to avi, but it took a pretty long time (as expected) and doesn't seem very worth it on the whole.

I'll just settle for Windows Movie Maker (ugh) because all I have to do is lay an audio track over the video and, in this case, edit it down to 15 min chunks. All I really need to do that is a timeline, I don't need anything fancier.

Uh... so we finished our first session of playing Wind Waker, but the video turned out to be about an hour long... and I forgot to insert breaks where a usual YouTube video would end. Is TDC's YouTube account cleared for uploading videos that are longer than 15 min? If not, I guess I have some major editing to do :( It's a shame that the audio we recorded simultaneously will have suffer.

Hey all...

SO, I tried to get a public IP from my university, but they wouldn't give me one for a game server, so... the Minecraft server is down for now. The good news is I'm in the process of setting up my old desktop at home to be the new server. This is harder than you'd think, because I actually have to call my dad and ask him to do a lot for me that I can't do remotely (like opening ports) and otherwise fight with an installation of Linux that had some... complications.

However, the server is tentatively up and running... I just have to transfer the files from our previous server over. I can always run an inter-university server with the desktop I bought for $5 anyways.  ;)

Excellent news: I now have a desktop dedicated to running our Minecraft server! And it only cost me $5.  :-\

Also: We have a few new players, some friends of mine. Only two more but, hey.

Also also: I'm looking into a plugin that will allow server-side authentication. What this means is that you guys can play on our server for free! I have to look into the way the plugin works, and it may not be possible after all, but it SHOULD be, so... maybe you can try before you buy, at least.

Heh scratch that, too sketch. I couldn't find a cracked exe I'd trust, so I won't let you guys use it either. Sorry, you'll just have to buy this awesome game that is totally worth it.

Well HNS, it's a little bit like LBP, but you don't make games or anything like that. It's more like playing with virtual LEGO, really. You deal only with cubes and, occasionally, some more complicated cubes. You also have tools that you must use to harvest cubes so you can place them somewhere else.

This is silly but, yeah, that's basically what it is. Playing with virtual LEGO, where you have "unlimited" LEGO bricks, but you have to harvest them first.

Also, I'm putting the server back up. I just have to reset the spawn point first.

I have to agree with MF, it's probably a problem with Opera's cookie settings. I'd suggest just using another browser? Or if you're attached to Opera, check your settings and make sure that cookies determine their own lifetime.

Heh, well I just added the portcullis to my castle... and a four-block-high wall on the inside of my moat. There's a little mini-gate near where the minecart stops now, and a drawbridge made with pistons and gravel that comes up from under the water. Also some... castle secrets.  ::)
