The Desert Colossus

I know it's old news, but let's vent about spambots.  More than three quarters of our 'members' are actually these annoying buggers, and a lot of them have moderately profane names.  I think we should have a new registration system in effect, one that has a random security code to stop them from registering unless they know it... anyone know where to get the HTML code for one of those?

And no CAPTCHA in this forum software. GF tried eliminating them once, a while back... didn't work. So umm... any new ideas?

but just because it isn't incorporated into the YaBB SE software doesn't mean that there isn't a hack somewhere out the for it.

Switching forums was considered, but that would mean losing everything...

No I mean, what if we have two forums associatiated with TDC: One forum that uses old software, and acts as a 'memory box', and a second forum with new software and all that stuff.

I see.  Would we be switching software, though?  I mean, we could use the same kind of complex shtuff that they use over at ZU, they barely have any bots there. :P

We'd have two forums, each using different software. That complex thingy is probably CAPTCHA. And I generally have no idea what I'm talking about.

I believe they're using the newest version of vBulletin, and that stuff's EXPENSIVE.  But if... hmm...

Over $100 a year, but that's also for free downloads of the newest versions and access to other "cool" things.  I dunno, GoldenChaos told me the exact figure, but I forgot.

Of course, I could always just get his account information from him, but that wouldn't be very 'moral' of me, would it?
