An interesting theory I stumbled upon...

I was looking through comments on YouTube for a video that played the music for the battle against Majora's Mask, and I happened upon a very interesting theory. It seemed similar to what I had read on Zelda Wiki once, but it does raise some questions.

The commenter, goldenbulletwolf666, said this (partially edited for more grammatical correctness, and every paragraph represents a separate comment block):

QuoteThat kid who was wearing Majora's Mask could have been the Happy Mask Salesman. Think about it. How else does the Happy Mask Salesman know so much about Majora's Mask?

That would mean that the Happy Mask Salesman's real name is Majora.

Actually, I read a very good theory. Majora was a child who lived in a culture that wore special masks everyday, but the mask had to represent something. When you look at the 4 boss masks, they, to me, resemble something (fish, bull, jungle warrior, insect), but when you look at Majora's Mask, what comes to mind? Nothing that I can see. As a result of Majora's mask representing nothing, the other children refused to play with him.

Everyday Majora sat by that tree, lonely, angry, and depressed, because nobody would play with him. Unbeknowest to Majora, however, the mask that he wore had the distinctive power to absorb the feeling's of the wearer (although I have no idea why it was made with that power), and Majora's negative emotions were transferred into his mask. When you go inside the Moon, you're really visiting the Mak's first memory of where it got these negative powers.

Majora's Mask, filled with these negative emotions, became a "mask of devils". Once it left its user, it began to cause chaos, but was defeated by the Fierce Deity. However, he had failed to destroy the Mask, and its negative emotions still survived inside of it. It was weakened, however, and was soon found by an ancient tribe and beause of its dark power stemming from Majora's negative emotions, was used in the tribe's hexing rituals.

However, because of the dark magic it was used for, Majora's Mask fed off of this power and began to regain its strength. The tribe, fearing what would happen if it regained all of its power, sealed the Mask away, hoping that it would never again resurface. However, the ancient tribe soon died out afterwards. In time, the Happy Mask Salesman, presumably Majora, somehow discovered the Mask's powers to absorb negative emotions, and presumably wanting his mask back, went to find it, which he did.

Majora's Mask, being sealed away for so long, had plenty of time to plan for its actions. First, it sensed a being who had much of the same emotions that its old owner did (this being that it sensed was the Skull Kid), and reached out to it. The Skull Kid, drawn by the Mask's power, ambushed the Happy Mask Salesman, and stole Majora's Mask. The Skull Kid then put the Mask on, and since the Mask had so many similar emotions to the Skull Kid, it began to take over him.

Majora's Mask was still quite weak in power, and had very little control over the Skull Kid, but it soon fed off of the emotions of the Skull Kid's and since these emotions matched the emotions of Majora's Mask, it grew much stronger, until it had total control over the Skull Kid. Now powerful wnough, the Mask was able to put its plan into action. It sealed up the Four Giants, and, using the masks of the children you see on the moon, created guardians to keep the Giants locked up.

Majora's Mask then proceeded to pull the Moon out of orbit, and then waited for it to crash into Termina, killing everyone. If the Mask had been successful, it would have fed off of the death and suffering caused by the Moon crashing into Termina. It would have gained legendary power.

Oh, and in my opinion, I don't think the Happy Mask Salesman wanted Majora's Mask so he could use it for trouble. He probably just wanted it back, since it was the mask he wore as a child.

Oh, and by the way, this theory is part of what I read, but some stuff I improvised. :)

Oh, and also, I believe that Majora (Happy Mask Salesman) designed that mask himself, as he believed that it would represent something, as it represented something to him (since he's a little bit "weird").

So, yeah. Scratch that stuff about me saying that I had no idea why the mask was made with the power to absorb the feelings of the wearer.

Oh, and finally, for those of you who are wondering why Majora didn't replace his mask, I believe that in his culture, you had to wear your mask almost 24/7 (except for eating and bathing), and so the mask the mask you start out with is the mask you wear until you reach adulthood.

Okay, sorry. I have ONE last thing to say. If anyone wonders why Majora's Mask didn't simply bring the moon down to the ground at full speed, it was because [it] had still yet to regain all of its power. It could only make the moon descend slowly.

You may disagree with it, but I still think it was very interesting.

Well it was stated that the mask man in OoT is actuall supposed to be a trivute to Miyamoto.

I think that The MM Manga had a good Idea on the origins of the mask.

Hi no Seijin

It is indeed an interesting theory.  Not something I would use, but interesting nonetheless.

I liked it. But who's saying that the kid (Mask man) Didn't stuble upon the mask while playing one day. If You read the manga you'll see this is very possible. The manga Explains origin or FDL too.

Hi no Seijin

Except the manga isn't usually canonical to the game.

Neither is that theory I'm just pointing out that it is possible.

Magmarfire, you know better-- *moves to Theories*

as for the theory itself, it's a theory.  It's got no proof going for it, but nothing wrong about it either.  I guess it can hold some water, but we need proof before we can say anything either way.

MagmarFire

Eh, it had something to do with Majora's Mask, hence its being in that board. My bad, dude.

As about the proof, I know there isn't any, really; I posted it mostly because of how interestingly dark it was and how compatible it was with another theory/observation that I read about elsewhere.
