Replaying Majora's Mask.

Really more of a blog than anything else-- I picked up my old N64 cart of Majora's Mask and what do you know, due to the temperatures, age, or something both of the files have been deleted.  So, I'm going to replay it (even though I was planning to anyhow), and I'm going for 100% in less than eight hours, maybe 12.  I'll keep you updated after every temple, so expect a double-post or two.

So I though to myself, why not make this a participation thing?  I mean, I can't videotape me playing or anything, but I'd appreciate any suggestions, and I'm more than happy to answer ANYONE'S questions about MM, regardless of whether they relate to the gameplay, the story behind it, or anything else regarding the game.

And so, here's my plan thus far.

First cycle (after the one you're stuck doing) - Visit Guru Guru, get the Bremen Mask.  Wait for the old lady, get the blast mask.  Visit Kamaro, get Kamaro's mask.  Get the associated heart pieces.  Max out my monies on dodongo's, deposit at least twice.  Get as far as Woodfall, then head back to Clock Town and wait until day 3.  Go to the farm and get the bunny hood with the bremen mask.  Somewhere in all this, I'll be getting the Bomber's notebook.

Will update later.

You can do it Tacheon!
I remember how boring it was to get the Don Gero's mask, and I don't think it was really worth it...
Oh, and when are you getting the Sprite Fairies?

As I complete the dungeons, I will pick up the fairies.  They really actually go along with the flow of the game if you do it right and remember where the hidden ones are (like that annoying as hell one in the Snowhead where it turns out it was hidden in the ceiling)...

UPDATE:  Whoa, holy crap.  I just started up the game for the first time, and the files were deleted.  I was very angry.  I started one, and when I got to the first place where you could actually play as Link (right as he was chasing the Skull Kid through the unnamed forest), he died the moment I could get control of him.

As if that wasn't strange enough, when I began after his death, I noticed that I had the ocarina of time.  I thought that was strange, very strange in fact, so I went and looked at the bar at the top, only to notice that all three slots contained the Ocarina of Time in them.  I didn't know any songs, however.  So I pressed start and checked out to see what other items I had, and saw that EVERY SINGLE ITEM SLOT WAS FULL WITH THE OCARINA OF TIME.  WAT.  The weirdest thing ever-- I had a total of 48 Ocarinas of Time.

So, I went ahead and turned the system off, pulled out the cartridge, blew on it to get rid of the dust, did the same for the N64 itself, and then put the cartridge back in, meticulously making sure that the cartridge was in securely and everything.  And now the game is running fine.  Perfectly, in fact-- both of my saves have been restored.

I went ahead and started a new game anyhow.  So, I thought I would share my interesting little story with you.

So, what have you done up until now?

Read my update :3

After fixing those difficulties, having writing inspiration and a few other things, I now only have the bremen mask, bunny hood, Kafei's Mask, the bomber's notebook, the blast mask, Kamaro's mask, and the Deku Mask (of course).

EDIT:  Oh, and the Great Fairy Mask.

TP Zelda

That's what our N64 games used to do: delete themselves.

Course, when I used to have Toy Story 2, whenever I'd save it'd delete the files and when I wouldn't save it would save the files.  ::)

But LMAO reading that you had 48-or somehting ocarina of times made me lol XDDD

You've got me wanting to do it now, only record myself.
See how much I remember after not playing it through for a couple years.

Twilight Wolf

Sounds like you need to clean the cartridge there, bud. Also, just for future reference do not blow into game cartridges. It only works because the moisture in your breath helps to create a better contact between the cartridge and the system, and that moisture will end up doing more harm than good by causing corrosion. Use some rubbing alcohol or Windex on a q-tip and clean the cartridge contacts that way. That's how we solved the problem we had with our N64 games, as mentioned above.
What, you expect me to say something witty?

TP Zelda

Yeah but we used to blow them... BEFORE YOU TURNED PSYCHO

Twilight Wolf

That was before we learned better.
What, you expect me to say something witty?

TP Zelda

Well I think blowing is faster.
Plus it works  :D

Twilight Wolf

But it harms the cartridges and the console over time. Why do you think there are so many broken NESs out there?

Sorry, Tach, we kinda hijacked your thread...

TP Zelda

Well our N64 hasn't crapped out yet has it?

ja sorry tichtach D:

I'd have to say Tacheon, you are probably the master of MM.

Just a slightly off topic question, What's your best time for the first LoZ?

mine is 34 minutes 23 seconds.

I haven't played MM in forever and I don't really plan to any time soon.

Darn ???

If I remember correctly, getting all five frogs together gave you another piece of heart.  That's not worth going through the process of getting Don Gero's Mask?

Ha, that never seemed to work for me, especially in Stone Tower because I would waste so much time in that one room filled with lava before the Boss Garo fight.

Oh, hey, speaking of Majora's Mask, the first line of my signature has a MM theme.  Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets it.

Just in case someone sees this after I changed my signature:

I call BS on your original LoZ time, that's physically impossible.

Neat sig, and yeah, that room threw me off, too... that's why I use the Inverted Song of Time to slow time down before I do anything else at all that cycle...
