Extreme adventures in sleep deprivation.

It's much easier and less risky (depending on your environment) than sensory deprivation, that's for sure... although I suppose technically the denial of REM sleep is a sensory deprivation of sorts... BACK TO TOPIC.

Despite my interesting background, I've never experienced natural full audiovisual hallucinations.  The mind is a powerful thing, and I've realized that I'm far too logical for my own good.  Regardless of where my inspirations for this undoubtedly more-than-slightly foolish task may lie (quite possibly House and/or Fight Club), I feel like the best cure for my recent egotism and bitterness towards those with less mental discipline than me is to, well, temporarily give up my control.  So I'm setting up an experiment.  Starting last night at around midnight to around Friday at noon, I will do my absolute best not to sleep.  At all.  I will be asking for the full help of my friends and family on this quest, and I honestly trust that they'll do the best they can because, well, deep down they all feel I deserve it :P

So here's what I want you at TDC to do to help me, if you feel unfettered by morality or anything like that.  PM me, post in this topic, reminding me to stay awake, put another pot of coffee on, take some No-Doz, anything that'll keep me awake.  I beg of you.  This effect will be exacerbated by the fact that I'm slightly sick, and I'm totally prepared for whatever will come about from this, no matter how undesirable.

So please, any comments attempting to discourage me or "talk me out of it" will be duly ignored.

Please be aware that I am attempting this under intensive supervision and with many contingency plans set up beforehand.  Do not attempt this without proper planning, safety, forethought and a strict regimen set up with a trusted parent, guardian, and/or doctor.

Go for it man, I want someone to share the experience (I got around 72 hours before my conscience just vanished somewhere in the living room).
Just try to not get into an argument, because the other people will gt hurt.

Good luck on the tripping balls without sleeping thing. Longest I've gone without sleep was over 30 hours. But even by that point, I wasn't hallucinating :\

The Glamour Nazi

I've gone a week without sleep.

some kid kept shinind my face with a flashlight all summecamp...

Also, I've found every our if you take a cold shower you can gain around 3 hours of non-drowsyness.

At 5 days you may begin to feel sensations not unlike drowning or falling out of a plane.

At 6 days you'll begin to be affected by permanent brain damage.

Uximadesk

Well, it depends on what you consider damage. After spending nearly three days awake, my hands now tremble slightly every now and then.

False. One kid spent nearly 2 weeks without sleep and then slept for about 12 hours and he was good as new without any brain damage.

Uximadesk

It also depends greatly on how much stress the brain gets while active.

And how much sleep you're used to getting.  :P

The Glamour Nazi

Yeah I wasn't doing much, but it was a little more than 6 days.

I slept the entire day after.

I've stayed up for about 4 days in a row. I guess I don't have the endurance you guys have because I started hearing noises...  ::)

So, I wasn't the only one who heard the strange unintelligible whispering?

The world eventually seems like you're dizzy only... You're not, and you feel the earth rotate.

It's awesome.

Whoa!

That's exactly what happened!  :-[
