Thanks for debugging! If you want to check the program out anyway, do it here!

Then I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong with the other person's computers. I mean, they're freaking XP, the OS the program was built on! :P

Well, I guess that means there's not too much I can do about the problem unless I do a search for a remedy... Thanks to all of you who tried it out and helped me with debugging, especially you, TP Zelda! :D

I guess that means I'm done here. Go back to your lives. However, for those of you who are interested, the download's still there; I guess this topic can now be used for feedback. ;)

I are glad to be of assistance!!  :) *Bows* lol ...I think that's the right thing to say...

It's fun even though I keep DYING  >.>

Then you can try setting Darkside's HP to, like, 400 or something if you choose to make modifications before you play. ;)

Ok, did I hear wrong, or when I beat the huge Heartless was that SSBB Zelda music?

I'm just downloading it now, but out of interest do you have all of the windows updates downloaded and does your friend whose computer with xp wouldn't work on? I know that I've found games that used to work fine on my computer would suddenly stop working and I'd have to go to all sorts of problems to get them to work after getting the latest windows automatic update. Though technically I know that shouldn't happen, since it's mainly there to add protection from various viruses and so on...

EDIT: I just found what might be a problem, when your friend put it into there C: drive, did they remove the excess folder? That confused me for a second when it wouldn't work. When extracted, you end up with a folder containing an identically named folder which contains the game files. You have to take out the folder that contains the game files and put the one it was in into the wastebasket. For some reason, it still wouldn't work for me so I tried emptying wastebasket and then playing and it worked fine. oddly enough it wouldn't work until I deleted the file it originally came in AND the .zip installer. I tried downloading again and did the same thing, and exactly the same results. Seems kind of weird, and might not be the case with why it wasn't working on other people's copies of xp but just a heads up.

I don't know of any Kingdom Hearts fanfares, so...yes. :P The defeat theme is also from SSBB.

I don't see why an update would bar the executable from working unless it were one specifically identified to be malware.

How exactly was it not working when you got the errors? Did it take an insanely long time to load, or did a message saying that it "encountered an error and needs to close"? If it's the latter, then a file must've been linked incorrectly, signifying that at least one was in an incorrect location. If it's the former, then that's probably normal, depending on the processing speed of the computer.

Thanks for trying it out, by the way!

it started up made a number of clicking noises and then a window started to appear (blank). At this point the error message popped up. I've tried it a couple of times now, and the game simply refuses to work, unless you delete the .zip file you extracted it from before playing. And it's a fun demo by the way. XD I was at first unsure whether it was to do with the .zip file deletion thing, but having tried it a number of times downloading new versions each time I think it looks like the correlation is correct. It's not a problem for me, just delete the .zip. XD I'm now just interested as to why that would have any effect whatsoever. It makes no sense to me.

MagmarFire

Does the error message ask you to send an error report? If so, that is really odd.

I'll have to add this to the readme.

EDIT: Actually, I have a hypothesis that could explain the reason that error occurs. When the program loads, it searches a very specific directory (C:\KH Game Engine\. . .) for the files it needs, which is why the file needs to be on the root of the C: drive. The problem, though, is that if the ZIP file is on the C: drive, too, the program doesn't know which file to look through since the file names are the same, albeit with a different extension, which it doesn't look at except for the last file in the directory. Since the names are the same, it's possible that the program searches in the ZIP file instead of the folder, and since "KH Game Engine" is mentioned only once in the directory (in other words, it's not in the same directory twice), the program will think the files don't exist, resulting in the crash.

Or it just can't look inside ZIP files at all. In either case, however, I can imagine a crash happening under those circumstances.

Sorry for the double post, but I needed to bump this somehow... Turns out editing won't do it...

But anyway, there's a new update! Quite a lot of stuff has been added and changed:

*A pause feature has been added (Backspace).

*Xion's double-taunt glitch has been fixed, and her taunting animation has been slightly adjusted.

*Gameplay speed has been increased by 20% (from about 33 FPS to about 40 FPS).

*MP Charge has been nerfed on all difficulty levels to account for increased game speed and lest the game be too easy. A detailed description of the nerfs is as follows (values are determined as a percentage change in original MP recharge speed [+.035 MP per frame]):

-Beginner Mode: -20%
-Standard Mode: -42.9%
-Proud Mode: -54.3%
-Critical Mode: -65.7%

*The glitch that made the Attack command unresponsive has been fixed. You can now use the spacebar while Attack is selected to attack. Standard attacking techniques still apply, but you can no longer use Enter to attack. This also changes taunting initiation; to taunt, instead of T + Enter, it must be T + Spacebar while Attack is selected.

*Blizzaga has been buffed (40% increase in damage).

*Firaga has been buffed (about 22.72% increase in damage); Firaga also got a nerf in MP cost (+5 MP).

*Thundaga has been buffed (MP cost has been decreased by 13).

*Two more challenge modes have been added (Randomization and Time Trial).

*The option to add a time limit to a modded game has been added.

*Hitstun has been increased slightly.

*Xion can no longer attack while in hitstun.

*Fullscreen support has been added.

*A configuration program has been added to the game package. With this, you can change the stats that are used in default games.

*Some sound effects have been altered.

If you want to try it out, download the latest version here! ;)

Err, Magz, so I just started learning C++ like a real man and I was immediately seduced by the idea of coding games, so it would be really cool if you could let me take a look at your lines of coding to learn the basics and start developing an engine of my own.
