You could go with the old "Sir Isaac Newton was mentally insane for most of his life" gag.

MagmarFire

That's a gag? Haven't heard of that one.

Twilight Wolf

I had to represent the group I was assigned to in English class today. I followed this advice:

"If you can't wow them with your eloquence, make them laugh at your awkwardness."
What, you expect me to say something witty?

Darth Wyndisis

That was sort of the approach I took in my high school speech class.  I basically made it my goal to make an *** of myself.

I typed everything I needed to say on a small piece of paper, and took it up to the podium with me.
I practically read it word for word because I forgot everything I was supposed to say.
My part was supposed to be 5 minutes long. It came up two minutes short. We still finished on the correct time, so in the end it didn't really matter. Truth is, we were given 2 months to work on it. Our group met for the first time outside of a starbucks on the night before we were supposed to present. Considering we should have failed miserably, we did all right.

It's pretty well known in the science/math/people-who-know-way-too-much-trivia communities that Newton was insane. Case in point: He was in Parliament for a few years, and the only thing he is known to have said is "I feel a draft, someone please close the window." Remember, this was after the English Civil War, so Parliament was pretty much in control of the country. Studies of his body by modern scientists have confirmed that he had huge levels of mercury poisoning, too. He was also apparently a religious nut.

He was still one of the greatest geniuses to ever live, though. Let's look at his accomplishments:

1. He basically created Calculus (along with Leibniz). Despite how much you may have (or do) hate the class, this might just be is definitely the most important form of intellectual study in the modern world.
2. His Three Laws of Motion. This and #1 are the basis for almost all of modern physics.
3. His studies in other scientific fields, such as astronomy, light, and mechanics, were also huge breakthroughs even if they were not as famous today. His studies of planetary movements removed all doubt that the Sun was the center of our universe, for example.
4. You know how your coins have jagged edges and such? He started this practice as a way to prevent thieves from clipping off the edges of coins for the precious metals. The impact of this practice on England's (and the world's) economy can not be overestimated.
5. The pet door. Seriously. He was too lazy to take his cats outside, so he cut a hole in door for them.

Among many others.
