The moon does that sometimes all of the smoke and dust in the atmospere. I also think it happens during some sort of an eclipse at night.

If it were a "star," it'd probably be Mars or some other red-colored celestial body.

Or, is it the moon you're talking about? Sometimes, the moon may appear orange (called a Harvest Moon) because it's low enough in the sky that the light that it's reflecting is starting to scatter in the atmosphere, resulting in an orangeish color.

Other than that, I don't know what you're talking about.

It may actually be Mars.  I just read something about how Mars is going to be as close to Earth as it has been in the last 5,000 years.  It will appear the size of the Moon and be the second brightest object in the sky.  It will happen on August 27th this year.
