Global Warming is Not a Threat

Global Warming is no real threat to the planet. The Ozone Layer is only two degrees above normal. Volcanic explosions and several other natural disasters cause more global warming than industrialization does. Global Warming is no threat and whoever says so, in terms of scientists and other guys similar, are no REAL profesionals and have no idea what they are saying.

Listen up everybody! All the scientists are wrong! You may now return to your homes, there's nothing to worry about here! Akatsuki, the thirteen year old middle-school student, knows what he's talking about!

Thank you, Akatsuki, for exposing these evil scientists for what they really are. Liars. With no idea what they're talking about. I mean, what credentials do these so called "scientists" really have?

Mysterious F.

Actually, only a few even think of worrying about global warming. They say many other scientists agree, but those scientists say they lied. The rest realize that nothnig will happen for the next 1,000 years on a noticable scale. By then they'll do something, and we have no need to worry now.

Also, temperatures increase up to 1/5 a Celsius degree (which are larger than Fahrenheit) a decade. Yeah, like in the next thirty years 1/2 a degree higher will kill us.  ::) I predict that it will increase 100 degrees by 7007. 50 by 4507. 25 by 3257. 5 by 2257. Yes, this will certainly affect our next generation.  ::)

Seriously, all of the greenhouse gases just don't rise up and weaken the ozone layer. They will have to take a very long cycle to get there that will weaken them so they are unnoticable. People who think this is a problem is dead wrong. We have more important things to worry about., such as terrorism and dictatorship governments, the poor people in Africa, and the rising population

MagmarFire

I...agree that it may not be a threat as of now, but I think it COULD later on if it continues indefinitely. I don't think the ozone layer has much to do with it--I think it's the CO2 levels that do.

While it may not be a threat to US, it MIGHT to polar life, since the polar ice caps are melting. We already know that.

Still, I'm not that much concerned about it right now. However, if you want a bigger example of the Greenhouse Effect, look at Venus. ;)

Advanceshipping and Rion had better be Chuck Norris approved.

Commodore Axilon

I think you're confusing Global Warming with Ozone Layer Depletion. They're two related, but quite different, things. In fact, the hole in the Ozone Layer above Antarctica is gone. Global Warming, on the other hand, is a very real, very serious issue.

Mysterious F.

Also, some of it has to do with the fact the Earth slowly moves turns the Sun. In fact, by the time we reach 100 more degrees, the closeness to the Sun would be more of a problem. We've already seen the Ice Age melt becuase temperatures increased, and there was no industrialization back then, so yeah this is more of a problem than global warming.

darkphantomime

Why do we make these excuses, just so we can put something off that has adverse affects? 2 or 3 degrees may not sound a lot to you in a warm climate, but in the extremes, the polar ice caps, that's where the temperature change will affect it the most.

Gee, Akatsuki sure is blind to sarcasm.

Why do people get so pissy to those that are trying to help this earth? YOu're all minimalizing the problem, it is in fact a very big issue. Akatsuki, as a 13 year old, you cannot begin to fathom the complexity of the system, and how easily it can go out of balance. So instead of just writing off something you don't understand as 'bogus', try to learn the science and see for yourself if it really is bogus, or you have been blinded.

Did you know that glaciers are melting at an ALARMING rate? You may write this off and try to minimalize it, but if we do nothing at this point in time, I can assure you,  we WILL regret it, as will our subsequent generations.

So what's your problem with people who are being environmentally active?

Mysterious F.

I have no problem, and I actually like it when people try to help the environment.

The sea level has only risen about 120 meters in the past 18,000 years. That's, on an estimate, about 350 - 450 feet. That is alot, even worse for Venice. (which sinks 5 inches a year) Still, that isn't all that has to do with it:
*Earthquakes
*Tsunamis
*Plates (the geologic kind) shift around and move coasts
*Earth drifts closer to Sun.
*Extreme Weather
*Rivers emptying water into oceans)

Also, in case you haven't noticed, coasts have EXPANDED since 5,000 years ago, especially in China, the Persian Gulf, and Italy. Originally where Shanghai (China's largest city) is today was an ocean. Ironic, isn't it?

They would melt anyway, you know. The Ice Age ice caps melted without industrialization, and temperatures were alot colder back then. The Earth has drifted towards the Sun slowly, and this is one thing we can never stop. Although in the Ice Age the ice was much closer to where the Sun shines on the Earth, (the equator area) it still melted, and I believe that, as we drift towards the Sun, ice inevitably melt.

Also, two things unrelated:
1. I can tell sarcasm, but ut's harder on a computer and the way Commodore said it suggested that Commodore thought all scientists believed in global warming.

2. A warning for cussing. It was also a bad idea to insult a member, (me) no matter who it was.

Commodore Axilon

Fine, no real scientist doubts Global Warming.

And I did not flame you. I was merely pointing out the extreme hubris of a thirteen year-old student claiming to know better than people who've devoted their entire lives to stuff like this.

Could you care to point it out, please? Because I do not see it.

Mysterious F.

QuoteWhy do people get so pissy to those that are trying to help this earth?

Cussing is against the rules.

QuoteGee, Akatsuki sure is blind to sarcasm.

So is insulting members.

darkphantomime

>_<

I don't believe I swore OR insulted you. However, it seems apparent that your little thread has caused injury, I suggest it be locked immediately.

But until then, are we so blind and oblivious? In the course of 5000 years, a big thing happened slowly. But in the course of a decade, a big thing is happening rapidly. MAJOR difference.

Blame everything for an excuse, and blame your own follies to your own excuses. This is not meant as an insult, it is a commentary on human nature.

But it seems that you're getting angry at it anyway. A 13 year old makes a point against something people have dedicated their entire lifetimes to. To me, that is an insult to every dedicated scientist on this planet. The nature of science is to explain and understand. Not to go about as some politically rampant people. If their results and quantities tell us that something bad is happening, then it is best that we heed their warning, rather than suffer a horrible fate.

And that word is not a swear, it is not even used as one. It is used as an adjective.

DW

oh no...please no fighting people...can't we just express our opinions without going out of control?

also, I would like to add that the sun is getting hotter as it ages...that contributes too. Basically, I am just going to have the standpoint that yes it is bad, but it's nothing to worry about because I'm christian so I believe the world won't end that way. and if it does, so what, I go to heaven.

I believe the scientists are right that we should cut down on greenhouse gases as much as possible, but I don't think it will be as catastrophic as some people make it out to be.

and it doesn't matter how old Akatsuki is, a 13 year old could have more insight than a 40 year old.

I'll give you the swearing part, but I think that the warning for insulting is kind of odd.  Zelda Veteran has made the same remark to me a few times.

Also, I'm not liking all this fighting, I'd try to calm down on this.
