Also, I feel a tad bit offended when people start bashing on Tingle.  I relate very easily to him.  If you all bash on him, you might as well bash on me as well.

Tights aren't really my thing, and I've yet to find some red underwear to wear over my pants.  And that article isn't true.  I'll let someone who's actually played TWW deal with the issue of Tingle "kidnapping" David Jr.  But really, just because Tingle wants to be a faerie and wear his underwear over his pants does not make him nuts or evil.  At some point in life, people wish they could be something else.  And superheroes wear their underwear over their pants all the time, but they're not hated for it.  Why should Tingle be hated just because he's being himself?

At least he saved them. Look, Tingle is the most bashed--on character simply becuase he is truly the most insane character. I find him amazing though, because no matter what anyone says he follows his dreams. Imagine how great the world would be today if everybody was like Tingle. Well, nevermind, not EVERYBODY...

Relating to a character doesn't have to be based on clothing or (re)actions. It can be something the character stands for, something in the essence of a character that matches something in your own person/role. The way the human brain makes connections often is very personal, and might not be understood by anyone else.

You know what Tingle is? An older guy who doesn't live by the restrictions society places on individuals. The biggest commonly known secret there is. He's who he is and enjoys it. Hate him for that if you want, it says more about you than about him.

I don't hate Tingle that bad. It's just one of those things that I smack my head and groan about. >>; (My cats hate Tingle, though, they jump up and smack the TV when they see him. xD)

Forced -> what makes you think that?
No way of escaping -> Tingle Island is one of the more important islands for the Rito's delivery services. He could always ask a  Rito for help (they can easily carry him), or ask him to send a message for help.

Forced, because he is complaining about it, why would he stay there? He obviously doesn't like it. Why doesn't he leave? He is forced to work the tower 24/7.

Maybe he feels that he should give Tingle a hand. I mean, they may not be related, but that seems to be a caring act. Another point: You can't like EVERY job out there. That's just life. Despite that, he does it anyway.

Think of it this way: if you needed a job to put food on the table but you hate the job with a passion, would you quit? Unless you wanted to starve, I doubt it.

More to the point, there has to be some kind of choice that he has in the matter whether he wants to stay or not, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't need to stay one way or the other.

Yes, but that's just speculation. I guess it could really go either way. I just think the idea of Tingle being an evil little SOB is quite interesting.
