yeah I dont have a wii but my cousin got one...we were wondering how we would get the wi-fi connection thing, if we have to go buy an add on or something.

Well if you have high speed internet and a wireless router then you need nothing. If you have high speend internet, you can get a router for pretty cheap or buy the Wi-Fi USB adaptor for about 30 bucks (can get a wireless router for the same price). If you have dial-up...well your out of luck.

DW

okay, high speed he has. so what is this wireless router? they may have one somewhere...I don't suppose we could use the wireless internet on the laptop I'm using, could we?

bgrugby

Well if your using Internet on a wireless labtop then he must have a router. the router would be somewhere next to the main computer where the Internet is plugged into.

DW

I see...so this little Sandisk cartridge in the side of the laptop would be where the internet is being routed to? SO can we stick that in the wii somewhere?

bgrugby

No the cartridge on the side on your labtop is how your labtop recieves the wireless internet, the Wii already has it built in. Nothing needs to be added as long as there is a wireless router (or a Wi-Fi USB adaptor) all you have to do is turn on the Wii and go to the control panel to test the connection to make sure it works.

DW

how do we test it, the sync button?

No, sync button is just for the Wiimotes. To test your internet connection, from the main screen go to the lower left hand button that says Wii and click it, then click the right button that says "Wii Settings". Then click over to the next page and click "Internet" and then "Connection Settings". Then click on a one of the connections and click "Wireless Connection" (since Wired Connection is not available yet). After that click "Search for and Access Point" (if your using a Wi-Fi USB then click "Nintendo Wi-FI USB Connector). Then it will ask you to choose which access point to use and if you want to save settings.

So...

1. Wii menu click Wii icon at lower left corner
2. Click Wii Settings
3. On 2nd page click Internet
4. Click Connection Settings
5. Click Wireless Connection
6. Click Search for an Access Point
7. Choose Access Point and Save

DW

:-Xoo...k....ill just go to that area and click a bunch.

I edited my post to simplify it more.

DW

yes...simple good... :-\I think I get it now.

Easiest way to check if it worked is to either go in the Internet Channel or on the Shop Channel, if they work then you are connected to the internet on your Wii 24/7...unless you unplug the thing.

DW

yeah, Scott(my cousin) pretty much just wants the shop channel so he can buy the old metroid games and such.

bgrugby

Well he'll have to wait a while as no Metriod game has been released on the VC yet.
