Hi no Seijin

LadyNintendo, Fisk, thank you for putting something into words that I would have had a hard time putting into coherent sentences.

Shadow the hedgehog is a much more sympathetic character than Zant. I mean Shadow lost his  *beeping* only friend for crying out loud. Everyone  tried to destroy shadow.

Any way I find making a big fuss over  some people who don't like tingle ridiculous. He's a fictional man
I would understand you guys getting peeved if he was a real life person.
Heck I'd even understand if you got peeved if someone  dissed  your favorite singer or actor. Why? because they are real life , living breathing people.

DW

The thing is the reasons they hate him. I can relate to Tingle in many ways, and if people say they hate the traits about him that I have as well, they may as well be saying they hate me. According to Zane, I deserve to die. You see how this works?

I see. Since you have some of tingles  traits and  some people hate tingles traits , so It's almost as if they are hating you.

You wear green spandex, are greedy and want  to be a fairy?:o Lol....

DW

....Forget it, you're obviously to immature to look beyond physical traits. How common that is in the world today...

I find myself similar to Tingle because I am different. I even dress differently than other kids, not in the spandex way but in the way that I don't want to pay 50 bucks for a shirt. I am always helping people, never talking down to them, and don't let them tell me I can't do something. If I want to do something, I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure I accomplish that, unless it means stepping on somebody else. If you look at Tingle's personality instead of his questionable dress, you'll see he is really an amazing individual, definitely one I would want to befriend. You also have to admit he is an excellent cartographer, and quite ingenious with the balloon, so he must be greatly intelligent.

As for being greedy, he really isn't. Think about how rare business must be for him, it's got to be hard to make a profit. He probably has to charge high prices to make a living.

Wanting to be a fairy? I want to be an actor and an author, and plenty of people(mainly my sister)say I'm wasting my time. Tingle's father says he will never be a fairy. In both cases, we don't listen and follow our dreams anyways. It's a simile to real life, you see it all the time, even if you can't comprehend it.

-clapclap- Nice point, Shika.

I have to admit I'm like hated characters as well, though not Tingle. Well, actually, maybe I am. I draw maps for various areas in video games if I am unable to get an in-game map for it. I wear dumb clothes because I can't afford a pair of jeans that aren't torn up or used, and I wear a ridiculous jacket everyday, even in the summer. And I charge people obscene prices for my art because I don't get business and can't get a job. I'm not greedy; I just am in need of money. Does that mean I deserve to die, because I can't afford good clothing and I have to make a profit?

In fact, I should probably look up to Tingle because he isn't afraid to follow his dream. I've had several ideas for jobs, but people tell me they're ludicrous or stupid, so I stop going for it.

I applaud you, Shikamaru.  Wonderfully said.

Even without Tingle wanting to be a faerie as a metaphor for people wanting to have a certain job, what's wrong with wanting to be a faerie?  I want to be a feloth, a race of magically adept people with cat-like traits that I created.  Or maybe a lumadadh, a race of people who are essentially Sheikah, but with wolf-like traits, that I also created.  Maybe one of the other four or five races I created.  It's not going to happen, but it's a nice thought to think about.  Should I, or anyone else who wanted to be something besides a human, be hated for that?  Isn't it human nature to want to be something that you're not, even if it's not possible?

This was the post I was refering to earlier.

LadyNintendo

And even apart from that: there really is no difference between a fictional character and a real person for a perceiver. This might be a little hard to explain, but I'll give it a try. I don't know if you have ever seen these movies: "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Flicka" (a 2002 Dutch movie). The first movie is about a man fighting to hold on to his memories and knowledge of his former girlfriend. During his struggle (which happens solely in his head) he is aided by her, or rather, his memories of her; the image he has of her based on all that time together.

Flicka is about a man fighting to save his virtual girlfriend. She's an advanced program, but has been replaced with a newer one and so is everything to keep her alive (It's a surrealistic movie). He's going to great lengths not to lose her.

People are predictable. During ESotSM, everybody cried. During the latter one, everybody laughed. But is there a difference at all? In both cases, we are talking about a person caring about something that is not real. Memories and interpretation of a real person are as real as those of a not real person. Those images ONLY exist in your head.

If you think about it, it's almost ridiculous people feel pain if someone they love is hurt/insulted. After all, it's not an attack on you, is it? However, people accept that as a reason for the perceiver to feel pain too, but somehow not if the insulted object is "not real". Real is what is in one's head, therefor, a fictional character is real too, and insults towards him/her/it are just as real and hurt just as much. What makes an idol you will NEVER meet or speak worth more than a fictional character you will never meet, speak?

Hi no Seijin

I understood it perfectly, LadyNintendo.  After all, it's what I was trying to say earlier, but with less words.

I'm not a "fan" of Tingle, but I see no reason to inflict bodily harm upon him as some people are suggesting in this topic.  Tingle's a man with a dream.  I think we can all learn a lesson about following our dreams from Tingle.  All he wants to do is to become a fairy, and he keeps at it.  He keeps at it despite the people calling him wierd.

Vaati

I don't think it's possible for a human or a Hylian or whatever Tingle is to become a fairy. You are what you are. But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I actually like his individuality. Wo0T! FOR INDIVIDUALITY!!!

IronKnuckle

I wouldn't exactly call him evil, aside from enslaving his brothers (and David Jr.) he hasn't really done anything bad.

::)

Did anyone notice that I said that Tingle was real to me, and that I'm not the only one to get attached to fictional characters?

I get your point.  Tingle is a video game character.  Now how about you get my point that I see Tingle as a real person and worth defending, especially since I'm the Tingle in my family.

There's nothing wrote with that. Even though Tingle may not be REAL real, he still counts as somebody who you can look up to. I mean, look at Superman, he's not real, but he makes a great rolemodel. I don't believe much in religion, but, for some people, believing there is a God or angels can sometimes bring out the best in someone and give them hope that someone is watching over them. Or what about Elvis Presley, he's real, but he's dead. But nobody should stop the Elvis fans from saying "Elvis lives!" If they want to believe, then let them! And I'm not saying this just because Vaati feels real to me, but I really think it's a good moral.
