New Seven (Or rather, Eight) Wonders of the World

So basically, through international voting, they've decided the New Seven Wonders of the World. (yay) Out of 21 finalists, the top seven are:

Chichen Itza - Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico
Christ the Redeemer - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Colosseum - Rome, Italy
Great Wall of China - China
Machu Picchu - Cuzco, Peru
Petra - Jordan
Taj Mahal - Agra, India

Additionally, the Great Pyramid of Giza (Cairo, Egypt) was named an honorary wonder when Egypt got angry that the pyramid, the only surviving of the ancient wonders of the world, had to compete with relatively new wonders, such as the Statue of Liberty and the Sydney Opera House.

The other thirteen finalists are:

Acropolis of Athens - Athens, Greece
Alhambra - Granada, Spain
Angkor Wat - Angkor, Cambodia
Easter Island Moais - Easter Island, Chile
Eiffel Tower - Paris, France
Hagia Sophia - Istanbul, Turkey
Kiyomizu Temple - Kyoto, Japan
Kremlin, Red Square, and St. Basil's Cathedral - Moscow, Russia
Neuschwanstein Castle - Fussen, Germany
Statue of Liberty - New York City, United States
Stonehenge - Amesbury, United Kingdom
Sydney Opera House - Sydney, Australia
Timbuktu - Mali

Here is my list of the Seven Wonders of the World, to contradict the above list:

Angkor Wat - Angkor, Cambodia
Bagan - Burma
Easter Island Moais - Easter Island, Chile
Machu Pichu - Cuzco, Peru
Neuschwanstein Castle - Fussen, Germany
Potala Palace - Lhasa, Tibet, China
Taj Mahal - Agra, India

So, what do you think about the New Seven Wonders? Are there any you felt should have made the list, and others who shouldn't?

We've got this pretty crazy awesome squirrel statue where I live. Should be up there.

I have to say, I think deciding new wonders is entirely ridiculous.

What people see as a wonder is a matter of opinion. I honestly liked the old list, changing it is totally laaaame.

But only one of the wonders from the old list still stands (the Great Pyramid of Giza). I would think most of the wonder being destroyed is enough a reason to make a new list.

I would love to go to Angkor Wat, well I'd die to go to most of those places, but Angkor Wat especially.

I think it's a pretty good list, I don't see why it's important to have 7, just because there were the 7 wonders of the ancient world, why not have more now?

Only because of tradition. The "western" word has inherited a lot of things from the Ancient Greeks, many of them still standing today.

And yes, out of all the ones I listed, Angkor Wat is my favorite too. I thought the only reason it didn't make the cut was because many people outside of Cambodia don't even know it exists.
