Given:  a = b

a2 = ab
a2-b2 = ab-b2
(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)
(a+b) = b
a+a = a
2a = a
2=1

Bam.

Well, if a and b are equal, then a minus b would be zero, which, when you get into the multiplication and division, kind of makes the entire thing invalid.

Well, if you're going to twist my arm...

y = 2x + 1
x = (-2 +- ( 4 - 4(0)1 )^.5 ) / (2(0))
2x0 = -2 +- ( 4 - 4(0) )^.5
2x0 + 2 = +- ( 4 - 4(0) )^.5
4x^2 * 0^2 + 8x0 + 4 = +- 4 - 4(0)
4x^2 * 0^2 + 8x0 = -4(0)
4x^2 * 0 + 8x = -4
8x = -4
x = -1/2
