So I went to the Magic The Gathering tournament down at my local card shop. I signed up for the draft, and played my 3DS until the pairings were up.

To anyone who wants to know what a draft is, read the following. If you don't care, then skip the following paragraph.

A draft is a game type where the referee hands out three packs to each participating player. When they give the word, you can start opening your first pack. You look at the cards in the pack, choose one, and then pass it to the left. When you get your cards from the player to your right, you choose a card, and pass. You do this until there are no cards left, and you receive one card. When everyone has received their last card, you pass to the right instead. You build a deck in this manner, and pit it against the other players tournament style.

My deck was a blue deck. Blue's priorities are deceit and intellect. Knowledge, manipulation, wind and wave. You play according to how your opponent plays, and do your best to prepare for anything they play. When you're set up to handle their spells, you clash. When their plans backfire on themselves because of your carefully planned setup, you then take the offensive with powerful (and most times evasive) creatures.

My first match was against blue's polar opposite, a Red player. Red's players support freedom, fire, and impulse. Red cards are fast and reckless, and opt to destroy you before you even have a chance to respond. Red mages control fire and earth, which they can throw directly at you, whether you have creatures or not. Blue doesn't normally get the proper the chance to setup before Red begins its rampage- however, if red runs out of steam, and blue takes the advantage, Red's chances of winning become abysmal. Red players normally concede when under the firm grasp of blue control.

My first match went exactly like that: I had him wriggling the grip of control, and he conceded both games.
My second match was against Green-White player, and while the match was ridiculously close, I came out victorious.
My third and final match was against a Red-White player (enemy colors), and the match was so insanely close I was sweating.

I emerged victorious, and was now a finalist. One other player and I were in it to win it. He approached me with the idea that we both shake hands and take three packs each. But I wanted the gold. I decided to go for it, and I wound up beating him pretty soundly twice in a row! Out of the packs I won from winning the tournament, I pulled 4 cards that had a combined total worth of $140.

Needless to say: I'm in a great mood tonight. 8)

So in other words, you're pretty much awesome.

Advanceshipping and Rion had better be Chuck Norris approved.

These were the four amazing expensive cards I pulled. All in a row too. Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm still really proud of my victory. Wanna know something else that was pretty cool? My opponent in the end was this guy named Griff, and he's a really nice guy. We don't hang out outside the store or anything, but we're pretty close friends over there. Well after I won my first game, I sought him out (he was playing Halo in the game corner between his matches) and I asked him how he did. He reported 2,0. Perfect win. I told him I went 2,0 as well, and he made the comment: "Man, I can't believe you won your first match". It's complete irony that I wound up beating him the end. He tried to be a good sport about it, but I could tell he was pretty upset. I have a feeling I may have started a rivalry between us. :)
