The inky black night enshrouded everything it met with its dark veil, protecting some, blinding others. There was one man in particular that Night was shielding with its merciful darkness. He sat in the dark alleyway, leaning against the wall. Only his arms and face was visible, pale, glowing, against the black.
“Masakazu!”
The man raised his head, hearing his name being called. But he didn’t reply – for his was hiding away from that voice, the person to whom it belonged. Masakazu hung his head, burying his face on his hands. Suddenly, a pair of feet was standing before him.
“What are you doing?”
Masakazu raised his head at the sound of the cold voice, only to find that Sakiko was standing before him. Of course, she was an expert at finding others – she could detect his aura, darkness or no. He turned his head away, and whispered,
“You never told me.”
Sakiko raised her eyebrows.
“Of what?”
Masakazu stood up, his fists clenched. His knuckles were burning white, a sharp contrast against the blackness around them. Sakiko’s ignorance made him angry, but he couldn’t pinpoint the reason behind this. He wanted the mage to kneel, beg for forgiveness. However, Masakazu knew that was impossible. He muttered,
“I’ve waited for you, Sakiko, ever since you ran away from home. I traveled to North Hyrule for you. Why can’t you understand?”
Sakiko realized that Masakazu was speaking of their childhood. When Opegaria, her aunt, was still living. When her life was fine. When she and Masakazu promised that they would always love each other, and none other. But she had all forgotten her past, and her feelings with it. The mage murmured,
“I’m sorry, Masakazu. But I just don’t…feel that way for you anymore.”
Masakazu sighed, his green eyes glistening with sorrow and longing. His voice was hoarse,
“What am I to you?”
The mage smiled weakly, and put a hand on Masakazu’s shoulder.
“A friend. A great friend.”
A tear escaped, rolling down his face. He bit his lips,
“Then I’ll remain one – and I’ll wait for you. I don’t care how long it takes. I’ll wait for you.”
Sakiko nodded. She could handle that. Masakazu gently grabbed Sakiko’s hand, and lifted it to his chest. He held her hand to his beating heart, his green eyes gazing at Sakiko’s gray ones. He whispered,
“And here you will remain. Always.”
