I don't think it's possible to not enjoy Portal.

That's very true...

Well, I'm off to play Portal. A fun time shall be had.
What, you expect me to say something witty?

Takun

I've never played portal before.

Twilight Wolf

You should. You can get the stand-alone game at Wal-Mart for $20. Just make sure your computer can run it, though.

darkphantomime

What're the mininum and recommended system requirements for Portal?

Twilight Wolf

I used to have the sticker with the requirements, but I threw it away. However, here's what Wikipedia says:

Minimum:
1.7 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 8 compatible video card, Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Recommended:
Pentium 4 processor (3.0 GHz or better), 1 GB RAM, DirectX 9 compatible video card, Windows 2000/XP/Vista

This laptop has all of the recommended requirements, but the problem is that the graphics card isn't fully compatible with VALVE software. As long as you don't have an Intel graphics card but you have all of the other requirements, you should be fine.

darkphantomime

Holy crap! Since when are 3 Ghz processors common enough for people to meet requirements fully?

Keaton

My laptop sucks horribly.

My desktop can handle Crysis at full specs.

darkphantomime

You tellin' me you own some sort of newfangled supercomputer?

Takun

Lol. Can you get it on any other system than PC?

Twilight Wolf

Not separately, no. To get a console version, you'll need to buy The Orange Box, and that only seems to be good on the Xbox 360. From what I've heard, the PS3 version is bad.

Takun

Guess Im buying the Orange Box. At least then I get Team Fortress as well.

As long as you're getting the Xbox 360 version, you should be fine. The PS3 version wasn't even handled by VALVE, but instead by EA, who seems to have screwed it up royally and released a half-baked version of the game. What's worse, neither VALVE nor EA seems to be willing to do anything about it; EA says it's VALVE's responsibility to fix it, and VALVE says it's EA's responsibility; thus, nothing is being done to fix it, and both companies seem content to have it that way.

The moral? Go for the Xbox 360 version.

Twilight Wolf

If he wants a console version of The Orange Box, he'd better.

From what I've heard, though, I think the PC version is the best. VALVE are PC game makers at heart, so they seem to be the most willing to support the PC version over the console versions, especially the PS3 version.
