Well, CA, I'd imagine you could turn into one if you were a high level druid.  To Shikamaru, please don't put the image of two owlbears getting it on in my head again, please.  My DM already did that the last time we met.  To MasterKey, owlbears will eat anything bigger than a mouse.  That's why if you're by yourself at night and you hear "Owlbear," you go, "Oh, s***!" and hope you can run faster that it.  And that you don't run by it.  Or the whole pack of them, for that matter. :P

Let's see, the Monster Manual says that their speed is 30 ft.  Now then, that's running, and they can move 30 ft. in one round, which lasts six seconds.  Think you're screwed?  If so, you better be an extremely good fighter or a spellcaster who didn't use up all your spells for the day.

This is why you always travel in groups.  The owlbears will still attack, but you can at least survive them.

You obviously haven't been paying attention.  Owlbears don't care.  They will viciously maul anything in their path.  Don't try to befriend them unless you can cast a Charm spell.
