Hi no Seijin

I haven't watched the pony show (yet), but yes, I agree that ZV should ignore those people who don't seem to understand that people can have a wide variety of interests.  Just because fantasy/science fiction is my favorite genre of books doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good mystery book (shoot, given the right author, the two can mix really well).

Perhaps a better example would be Harry Potter; just because something is targeted towards children doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it as well.

Harry Potter isn't based on a toy for little girls. :|
What, you expect me to say something witty?

So, guys, you're all saying that becauseZelda is rated between E-T it's only for people between the ages of 10-17?

No one else can enjoy it?

You're saying it's wrong for boys and men to enjoy Sailor Moon because it's a shoujo?

Or that girls can't enjoy CLANNAD Because it's a show based off a game aimed at 20+ year old male otaku?

A work of art can be enjoyed by anyone.

/thread, get over it and move on.

Your "argument" makes no sense.

Zelda's ESRB rating is more-or-less completely irrelevant, as the ESRB doesn't tell anyone who should be playing the game. What the ESRB does is rate the game's content and then determine what the recommended minimum age for a player is, not what age group the game targets. I'm sorry, but that was one of the dumbest attempts at making a point I've seen for a while.

Yes, I'd find it very creepy if boys (and especially men) liked Sailor Moon because from what I've heard of it it's super girly.

Girls liking a show based off a video game is completely different from grown men liking a TV show for little girls, just like there's a difference between a woman wearing a man's clothes and a man wearing a woman's clothes.

And no, you can't just end the discussion by saying "/thread, get over it" especially when your points aren't even that good. That's very immature and it tells me you're not even willing to try to see what I'm saying. However, since we're obviously both set in our opinions, I'm not gonna bother with the discussion any more.

This is just really depressing. Sailor Moon is a true work of art, as is Madoka Magica and CardCaptor Sakura. Both aimed at girls, both EXTREMELY popular with men. Art is art. Regardless of who it's aimed at.

Shoujo is a great genre, don't bash it because it's for girls.

From what I've heard of Sailor Moon, it has a ton of fanservice.  To quote TV Tropes (second example under Anime and Manga):  "When you consider the fact that Magical Girl shows are (at least mostly) aimed at the 9-13 year old female audience (ostensibly), who else but dads are the elaborate costumes, Transformation Sequences, and Panty Shots for?"  [The emphasis is mine.]

It's still sold as a children's book and is still thoroughly enjoyed by adults as well.  The Harry Potter example may deal more with an age gap between the targeted audience and the unintended audience, but Periphery Demographic is still Periphery Demographic, even if the gap is gender-based.

Oh, and Chuck, you might want to fix that quote tag; it's a forward slash, not a backslash.
