okay, this is a bit late, but since nobody seems to know, thought I would say it anyways. anywho, they read them with lasers. the cd spins underneath the laser, so the laser light reflects off the small grooves and such that contain the data in the cd, therefore 'reading' it.

as for the last question, he said that because you have been really irritable. Or at least were two days ago.
