Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker — Oddities
As in all of the games in which Link's exploits are told, there are certain oddities to be found. The Great Sea is no exception with both oddities and mysteries galore. This guide details every mystery and oddity you could possibly believe existed on that blue expanse.
A Fishy Relationship
When you get the figurine for the Bar Maid in the Windfall Cafe, it says that she had a boyfriend, but won't tell who he was. Then, if you go to Rock Spire Island and feed the Merman bait, he tells about the Lighthouse and how he used to watch it with his dear Gillian. Gillian is the name of the barmaid...

As we know, Ganondorf was not the first to use the Forbidden Fortress as an operation base. According to the game, it once was the home of a pirate group other than Tetra's. Maybe I found some hints on the former inhabitants.Just after you have beaten Helmaroc King, walk to the wrecked ship where Ganondorf waits inside. Do not enter (you won't get the chance to see this again), but take a close look at the door of the ship. Left and right of the red face, there are 2 oval shields with a VERY familiar emblem: a stylized crying eye, symbol of the Sheikah! Although the symbol is a bit different (the tear is too big and the eye is too small), I think it's the same emblem. It's in cel-shading after all, and perhaps the developers even wanted to make it hard to recognize.
I speculate the shields were already there before Ganondorf came, since the evil king definitely would not take the time to decorate his temporary hideout, especially not with the symbols of his former enemies. To me it suggests that the particular pirate group was none other than a group of Sheikah who survived both the Great War pre-OoT and the Great Flood pre-TWW. With Twilight Princess in mind, that is not impossible.

If you look at the official art of Phantom Ganon, you'll notice Hylian script written on the sword. If you translate the letters, it comes out as "zuboragabora"—the two Smithies from Majora's Mask. Now that's an Easter Egg!
