zelda ix: the wind waker
sidequests guide

In addition to the original quest there are many, many sidequests that you can do to bring the game toward 100% completion. Listed below are the various sidequests and if applicable the grid code of where they can be found. To help in the specific location, you may want to consult our reference map of the Great Sea to decipher what the grid location is.

Getting the Deluxe Picto Box

After getting the normal Picto Box from the tunnels under Tingle's cell, go to Lenzo's Picto Studio on Windfall Island (D2) and talk to Lenzo. He'll let you go upstairs and admire his work. After viewing all the pictures, head downstairs and Lenzo will offer you a series of jobs. They are the following:

Hurricane Sword Attack

Bring 10 Knight's Crests to Orca on Outset Island (B7) and he'll teach you this ability. Charge it with the B button and release to spin around a target attacking all enemies in range.

Collect the Figurines

To collect the different figurines you'll first need the Deluxe Picto Box (see above how to get it). When you ahve the DX Camera, you'll have to take a series of pictures and give them to the Figurine Craftsman at Forest Haven (F6). For the absolute best list on how collect all 134 figurines, check out the checklist put out by Nintendo at Zelda.com under the "Figurines" section on the Wind Waker site.

Elixer Soup

At some point in the game, on Outset Island (B7) Link will learn that his Grandma is feeling sick. Take a bottled fairy to her to heal her, and in return Grandma will give Link Elixer Soup. Link can drink the soup twice per filling and it refills his health and magic meters, and gives him a boost to his damaging ability until hit by an enemy. At any time after Link can return to have one bottle filled up with the Elixer Soup.

Hero's Charm

Bring 40 Joy Pendants to Mrs. Marie on Windfall Island (D2) and she'll give you the Hero's Charm in return. The charm is like a mask that when equipped shows each enemy's health bar above their head!

Trading Sequence

  1. At Windfall Island (D2) talk to Zunari (the Eskimo-looking fellow) and he'll tell you the plight of his shop. Offer to help and he'll give you a Town Flower.
  2. Go to Greatfish Isle (B4) and talk to the Goron Merchant there. Trade him the Town Flower and 20 Rupees for a Sea Flower.
  3. Talk to the same Goron Merchant again and trade him the Sea Flower and 25 Rupees for an Exotic Flower.
  4. Go to Bomb Island (F5) and trade the Goron Merchant there the Exotic Flower and 40 Rupees for a Sickle Moon Flag.
  5. Talk to the same Merchant again and trade the Sickle Moon Flag and 65 Rupees for a Fountain Idol.
  6. Go to Mother & Child Isles (B2) and trade the Goron Merchant there the Fountain Idol and 35 Rupees for the Big Sale Flag.
  7. Return to Greatfish Isle (B4) and trade the Big Sale Flag and 75 Rupees for the Hero's Flag.
  8. Talk to the same Merchant again and he'll trade you the Hero's Flag and 100 Rupees for the Postman's Statue.
  9. Head back to Mother & Child Isles (B2) and trade the Goron Merchant there the Postman's Statue and 200 Rupees for the Shop Guru Statue.
  10. Head back to Greatfish (B4) Isle again and trade the Merchant there the Shop Guru Statue for a Heart Piece.
