Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
Walkthrough — I. The Adventure Begins

The Game opens, you sitting next to Fado, your fellow ranch worker, by the river. You talk with him for a while, and begin playing from your house. When you leave, the man asks you to get Epona (or whatever you happened to name your horse at the beginning of the game) and come to Ordon Ranch. There is a small road behind you. Follow the path, and navigate into the waters edge, where you find a village girl bathing Epona.

She then asks you to play the song that Epona likes, however, there are no instruments. Simply walk over to a certain patch of weeds near you, and press [A]. You'll play Epona's song, albeit unintentionally, and nevertheless you'll be ready to go. Lead Epona down to the Ranch, and you will play a Goat herding game. You have to herd 10 of them into the gate, and then Fado lets you jump fences. Jump the fence in front of you and the main gate of the ranch to leave.

You wake up in your house with the day off. The village children call to you from outside. Talk to them to hear about a Slingshot on sale at the store. They're bummed out because they don't have enough money to buy it. Next, talk to Colin, the kid near Epona by your house. He speaks of a Fishing Rod that his mom made for you. Time to head for town.

When you get to town, the first person you see is an old man throwing rocks at a bee hive in his tree. Talk to him if you must, and continue on. When you come to the shop, the woman is upset because her cat ran away. At the end of the river, you'll also notice that there is a monkey holding a cradle. When you talk to Uli, Colin's mother, she asks if you have seen a cradle float by. Hrm, I sense a set up.

Climb the hedges, and jump across the platforms to come to a weed patch. You play a song that summons hawk to you. Point the hawk at the monkey down the river and let it loose, sending the bird soaring to its prey. The hawk will strike the monkey, who will then drop the cradle into the river. Retrieve the cradle and give it to Uli, who will thank you by giving you the fishing pole that Colin made. Now, head over to where Sera's cat is, across the river by the dock, and fish. You'll need to catch two fish however, as the first always just falls over the line and hobbles away. The cat will snatch the second.

Fishing is easy with the Wiimote, requiring you to simply assign the pole to [B] and then swing the remote while holding down said button. The line will fly and hit the water with a plop. Let is sit there and watch the bobber. Eventually it will be pulled under the water, so pull up the remote to yank the line and grab the fish below with the hook. Now, hold [B] and use the Nunchuck to imitate reeling in the fish. Shortly the fish will be yours.

Once the cat gets its fill, it will run back to Sera's Sundries, which you can enter to find a very happy Sera. She'll thank you for finding her cat with a Bottle of Milk and offer to sell you her wares, among which is the slingshot. Outside, you can shoot the hive, if you want the prize of 15 rupees at the top of the tree. However, after this, head home, and Rusl (who seems to be the town sheriff) speaks with you. He said he left you something in your house. Enter your house to find an wooden sword in a chest. And, you'll have to defeat the first enemy in the game on your way up your ladder: a spider. The village children outside will give you the know-how to wield a sword, and will give you target practice with your sling shot.

The children, now eager to fight the mean monkeys, chase a monkey into Faron Forest, where you have to go through the forest battling new enemies such as Keese, Bokoblin, and Bokobabas. Talk to Coro, the man with the afro, and he will give you a lantern. Use it to navigate through a cave, and deeper into the forest past the swamp, where you'll find Colin and the female monkey (Let's call her Kiki, ok?) imprisoned in a cage on the other side. Smash the cash with your sword to free the two and return to Ordon Village.

back at the village, you'll have to herd the goats one more time, this time there are 20. After which, you go through more great cut scenes, and Ilia takes Epona to the waters edge in the forest, where you find her first. However, the village children want your wooden sword for a while. (You have to give it to them to proceed) and you continue into the forest. You must take a secret passage way to the spot (because the gate is closed.) It's not hard to find.

Here a cut scene shows enemies on boars busting through the gates. They shoot Ilia with an arrow, and club you over the head. The leader Orc takes Epona, and opens a Twilight portal, leaving you there to die. You wake up, with everyone missing. Link goes exploring, and is pulled through an ominous door: The Gate to the Twilight Realm.

A creature has link by the throat, and suddenly the Triforce on his hand begins to glow. The monster screeches, and leaves. You turn into the wolf, and pass out. You wake up in a prison cell, chained to the floor. Run around for about 10 seconds, before Midna appears. Smash the box in the corner of the room and then dig through the debris to exit the cell. In the hall, follow Midna's instructions. She teaches you how to use your newly acquired animal senses: You can see the dead, and certain secrets.

Sense is a handy skill that can be activated at any time to find dig spots, invisible foes, Poes, and people who have been turned into spirits by the Twilight. The only drawback? It limits your vision to directly in front of you.

There are spirits everywhere, most of which are soldiers. They keep speaking of hideous Black creatures. Make your way out of the castle, and listen to Midna (she guides you through it). The place is in shambles. Wreckage everywhere. You soon reach a winding staircase. Climb up them to the tallest tower where you will find a person on a full body robe. She later reveals that she is Princess Zelda leaving us with a long winded explanation of how Hyrule became covered in Twilight.

After this long and significant cut scene, you have to return to town, where you find that the village children (Malo, Talo, Ilia, Beth, and Colin) have all been taken. Midna helps you steal the shield and a sword from around town, and you can head back to the spring, where you were first clubbed. You'll be attacked by a Shadow Beast, who can be dispatched after a short battle.

After it's destroyed, a Light Spirit—Ordona—appears (and fairy fountain music begins playing). It explains that he is one of the four light spirits that protect Hyrule. "The Black beast you slew was a shadow being."(Thus we have a name for them.) "It had come to seize the power of light I wield.” You are then asked head north to Faron Forest. There you'll be attacked by more Shadow Beasts. Once you dispatch them all, another light spirit (though only as a ball of light, it is severely weakened after all) will appear and ask you to fill a container—the Vessel of Light—with Tears of Light. To do so, you have to destroy these small insects who are only visible with Sense, and collect the Tears of Light they emit in their death.

After the insects are destroyed, you are restored to your former state by Faron, the second light spirit. You are now dressed like the Hero of Time. He and the other light spirits sealed a dark power away in the forest temple. Head north through the swamp and use Midna to eventually cross your way to the area just outside the Forest Temple. On the path to the Temple awaits a gold wolf who will attack you. It turns out this deceased Knight wishes to teach you a new skill, the Ending Blow. He also instructs you to seek out him once you return to humanoid form.

That done, head through the gate to the Forest Temple.
