Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
Walkthrough — XIII. Helping Ilia and the Language of the Sky
Return to Kakariko Village and the sanctuary to speak with Renando, and he will tell you that to help Ilia’s memory, we should re-trace her steps. He asks you to go to Telma's Bar, because she may have something that can jog Ilia’s memory. He also mentions that Shad is studying the statue in the basement.
Head to Telma's Bar, and she will tell you about a wooden statue that Ilia had with her when Telma found her. She will explain that they left the statue at the Clinic after initially treating Ilia, and that Link should retrieve the statue from the cranky Doctor in the medical clinic. Head there and he will explain that he had the wooden statue, but that it had some chemical spilled on it, so he moved it outside to dry off, but it was stolen. He then immediately disavows blame for it, of course. He will move into his back room, and mumble about things. Head to the back of the room, and push the box to the left. You will notice a green gas rising from a hole in the wall. Transform into Wolf Link, and learn a new smell, the Medicine Scent.
Turn on your Senses, and follow the scent to the alley where the bar is, to find Louise the cat, who happens to be sitting right outside the pub. Louise will explain that she took the statue, but then some skeletal beasts had taken it from her. She explains that they hang out around South Gate, and only come out at night.
Run through the South Gate to the cavernous entrance to Hyrule Field beyond, but just hang out around there. Assuming it’s night time, the Wolfos will emerge, and attack en masse. It's an easily fought battle, but it’s important to note that you need to take out all of them at once, or else the statue won’t drop. So, let them surround you and then do a spin attack to take them all out.
Once they are all defeated, the wooden statue will pop out of the ground, and Link will grab it. Take it to the Medical Clinic man, and he will shriek, and tell you that he "Hasn’t got the foggiest notion of what it is" and tell you to take it to "Ilia, or whatever her name is."
When you take the stone to her, part of her memory will return to her. She will tell you that she remembers that she was confined somewhere. And whoever was with her, had helped her escape. Gor Coron pipes up, and tells you that he knows where she is talking about, and that it was referred to as the forgotten village. He also says that there was recently a rock slide there, thus blocking the entrance, but it's not a task for Gorons to get through. He nods to Darbus, the Patriarch, and he runs ahead. Gor Coron will mark the spot on your map, and you'll be on your way.
Now head to spot marked on your map. Warp to the Bridge of Eldin, and cross. Blow up the boulders blocking the passageway, and continue through. You will come to a cave, where Darbus will be savagely punching the rocks. He will clear the path, and give you advice that I strongly suggest you follow. He will tell you to destroy as many of them as you can without them spotting you. It's true that you cannot destroy all of them from a distance, some are hiding in houses. Get to where you are just about under the sign, and combine your Hawk’s Eye and the Bow.
Awesome western “Showdown at OK Corral” music starts playing setting the for what’s about to transpire. Pick as many of the Goblin Archers off with your enhanced bow as possible, and continue into the nearest house on your right. Destroy any remaining beasts in there, and break the window in the back of the house. Continue back there to find a Cucco, and a statue that indicates the appearance of the Golden Wolf, and a new skill. Don’t howl along with it yet. If you do, everyone you killed will regenerate.
Destroy all the creatures, and there will be a cut-scene of a small old lady opening her door and peeking outside. She will speak with you, and thank you. She will tell you that her name is Impaz and that she was named after the great person who founded the village (educated guesses are on Impa, of course) and that she cannot leave until a certain person arrives. She is the last citizen in the town and lives with a bunch of cats, making her a consummate Cat Lady. After talking, she will give you "Ilia’s Charm" and you should then head back to Kakariko.
This is the part of the game that you will appreciate Midna most (because you'll be constantly warping). Show Ilia’s Charm to her, and her memory will return. There is a dramatic cut-scene of you and her back in Ordon Spring with Epona. She'll remember the familiar smell of hay, and a tear will roll down her cheek. She will give you her charm for keeps, and now you'll be able to call Epona wherever you are (a very nice bonus) and then explain that Impaz is waiting for the messenger of the heavens, who is wielding the sacred rod. Thankfully, you already have the rod in question, which surprisingly makes you the messenger Impaz seeks.
Head back to Impaz's house, and show her the Dominion Rod. She will get all excited, and give you the "Ancient Sky Book" and you'll be off on your way to Shad, who is still in the basement of the sanctuary. Give the book to him, and he will have a geek attack. Shad will chant a few words, and despite his best efforts, nothing happens. The statue shows no signs of life, and he is rather dismayed. He thanks you for the book, and marks some places on your map where other owl statues are located. The secret to the book is located at each of those statues.
Head down to all the spots marked on your map. Move the statues, and pick up the missing characters of the book beneath them. When you collect all the characters, and get the filled Sky book, head back to Shad. He will chant the word, and the statue will change so that you can possess it. He gets dismayed (assuming nothing happened), and walks away. Move the statue and enter the room, follow the path, and stand before a large cannon. Shad will appear behind you. He will go crazy, and Midna will tell you that we can warp the canon. Talk to Shad, and he'll leave the room.
Warp the canon to Lake Hylia, and go talk to the clown operating the canon game. He'll tell you that he'll "fix up your rig" for 300 rupees. Say yes, and let him work for an eternity and a half, and it will be set to launch you into the heavens. Use the Clawshot to climb inside (target the spot in the back of the cannon), and after a quick explosion you and some stowaways are on your way to the heavens.
Welcome to the City in the Sky.
