The Minish Cap Walkthroughs
Chapter 5, Elements, Plot Twists, and Pegasus Boots, oh my!
With the White Sword in hand, return to Hyrule Town. Head north all the way until you reach the Castle and head inside. Go up to the entrance to the Throne Room, but rather than going in take the stairs on either side of the door down. Downstairs, head south and the through the door in the middle of the room. Continue up until you reach the Elemental Sanctuary. In here you’ll learn how the Four Sword was apparently created. When the process is complete and you’ve learned how to split, head down the stairs and split using the inner two panels and step on the switches. The door will open and you can leave.
Once you reach North Hyrule Field a cinematic will occur, during which you’ll have to fight two Moblins. Once that ordeal is complete (though they are easier than they look) Ezlo will explain some backstory. I won’t spoil the surprise for you, but it makes this game much more enjoyable than I thought possible.
Anyways, the excitement of that aside, head back to Hyrule Town. Return to the Market and suck the dust off of the spot there. The reason why you did this will be apparent later. Also, if you visit Swiftblade he’ll teach you the Rockbreaker (which means you can smash pots with your sword).
Now, leave Hyrule Town and head back to where you got your first bottle from. Instead of heading right into the room with the Business Scrub, use the tiles to split into two vertically and push the big block left until you can go up the ladder. Here kill the two Octos and the Moblin, then bomb the cracked wall and go inside. Kill the Keese here and get the Red E Kinstone from the chest.
Leave the cave head down and right. Go up and push the boulder into the hole (to avoid the ladder next time around) and head down to the next screen. Here you’ll witness a brief but disturbing cinematic. Then head down and push the boulder on the right into the hole. Head down, left, up and left to enter the Castor Winds. Now, try to go left and cross the muck and you’ll realize you can’t. Ezlo suggests you need a way to move faster. Well, I have just the thing!
"If you have the foresight of checking the sign right before the way to the Wilds, you’ll notice it reminds you not to forget your Pegasus Boots. Hrm…"
Return to Hyrule Town (an easy task now that you’ve moved those boulders) and go to the house in the Market with the shoe on the roof. As you walk in, Rem, the Cobbler, will fall asleep. Use the pot in the house to turn small and climb up the small stairs and onto his desk. Talk to the head Minish on the desk and they’ll mark a spot to Syrup the Witch’s house on your map (so you can wake Rem up and get the Pegasus Boots).
Leave Rem’s house and make your way to North Hyrule Field. While leaving the market you’ll notice that Beedle has occupied the spot you cleared. That was quick!
Once at North Hyrule Field, head left toward Lon Lon Ranch. Go down and right to find Malon and Talon outside their house. Apparently Talon’s locked them both out… Anyways, use the stump behind the house to shrink, and go inside the house. Get big using the pot and smash the pots to get the Spare Key. Shrink again and use the stump outside to grow. Talk to Talon and he’ll be so grateful he’ll let you pass through his house. Take him up on his offer and go through the house. Explore the ranch to find the stairs down. In this cave, open the Big Chest to get a Big Wallet. Score!
Now, leave the cave and head up and to the left. Push the boulder into the Hole and use the Cane to get up the cliff. Shrink down, cross the plank, and drop in the hole. Grab the Red > Kinstone from the chest and return to the stump and grow. Jump into the vortex and head south to the ledge. Head to the bottom edge of this cliff and jump into another vortex and let that carry you across the pond to dry land. Head right into Lake Hylia. But, rather than explore, head down and left back to the Ranch. Push the boulder into the hole and use the Vortex to land on the ledge on the left. Go down the stairs, push the boulder into the hole and talk to the Goron. Fuse Kinstones with him and another Goron will come to Hyrule Town. This will come in handy much later.
Anyways, head back to Lake Hylia and head down this time, and you’ll pass into the Minish Woods. Head right up the stairs to find Syrup’s Hut. Pick up the Mushroom and talk to Syrup. Now the wake-up mushroom is yours (for only 60 Rupees…). Leave the Hut and head to the left of the screen. Go down and you’ll find a Heart Piece next to the pond. Now, head back to Hyrule Town.
In Town you’ll notice that Malon is now selling Lon Lon Milk from a cart (with Epona in tow?) and at the market that Goron you summoned is selling Kinstones. Go to Rem and wake him up, and after much yapping he’ll give you the Pegasus Boots! Now, return to the Castor Wilds.
"'I have a strange habit of making shoes in my sleep…' Hi-larious!"
Back at Castor, use the boots to head right across the muck then down. When you hit the wall, walk left quickly. Go up the vine and take the upper bridge. Climb down the vine here and go in the cave. Follow the tunnel into the room ahead. Defeat the Iron Knuckle for a Gold Kinstone.
Leave and climb back up the vine. Take the upper bridge. Climb down the vine here and go left and up. Position yourself to run right across the much so that you run under the bottom thorn bush. When you stop quickly drudge up and use the stump to shrink. Head through the log and then into the separate screen with the pond. Use the Gust Jar to cross it on the lily and at the end go up. Jump in the hole and kill the blue spinners in here. When they all die a big chest will appear with the Bow inside!
Now return to the stump and grow, and use the boots to cross the muck back to the left. Go up and use the Bow to slay the Eyegore and go up the vine. Use the Vortex to cross south past the water pond. Head down and left and push up the grave and go down the stairs that appear. Inside you’ll find Swiftblade the First’s dojo! You can’t train with him yet (you need all seven other scrolls) but you can grab the Heart Piece here.
Now, from where you are, use the Boots to cross the muck going down and right where you’ll find a Peahat, Rope, and Eyegore. Slay the first two, then the Eyegore. Now go up and push the boulder in the hole. Climb the vine, cross the bridge and use the vortex to go southwest past the gap in the shallow water. Push the boulder in the hole and go in the cave. You’ll find a Gold Kinstone in the chest. Go up past the first boulder you pushed and up the vine onto the raised platform. Take the top bridge, then the left bridge, then to the next left bridge and go down the vine.
Slay the Eyegore and go up and left to find a cave. Inside from the chest you can retrieve the last Gold Kinstone. Now, return to the area where you push that boulder and go to the south wall. Cross the muck to the left and fuse Gold Kinstones with each of the Mysterious Statues. Doing so will open the way to the Wind Ruins.
Head down and left and touch the Armos Knight. It’ll come alive. Slay it to retrieve a Blue L Kinstone (this may be random). Head down to the next screen. Shrink using the stump and drop in the hole to find a Minish hut. Talk to him and get the Red E Kinstone. Climb back up and walk up the Armos’ Shield and flick the switch in its head. Leave the Armos, grow, and touch it to make it move. Kill it and pass it, pushing the boulder aside as you go, and walking right to the next screen.
Kill the three Tektites and head up. In this screen kill three more Tektites to open the way ahead. Climb the stairs and head right. At the stump, shrink down and backtrack by climbing vines to the screen where you kill the second set of three Tektites. Climb down the middle vine to find a ledge and cave. Inside the cave, past the flies is a Heart Piece. Return to the stump. However, stay shrunken and head down and left to the Armos Statue while avoiding the Ropes. Climb inside the statue and activate it. Return to the stump and grow. Then go over and kill the Armos Statue.
Past it push the boulder in the hole and head right and down. In this next area, before you do anything, jump on the stump and shrink then climb in the rightmost Armos and deactivate it. If it sees you it will run forward and shutdown, blocking your way forward. If that happens head up to leave the screen and back down to rest it. Once the first one is deactivated, kill the remaining three to unblock the two chests. Inside them is 100 Rupees and 50 Mysterious Shells.
Now, head left and down past that Armos then right and up, killing the Ropes as you go. Once all three are dead the way up will be unblocked. Go up and enter the Fortress of Winds!
